MSN adapter poor performance

I have the Streetpilot C580 that came with the MSN content. The only times I can get content is in thee locations so far in Miami.
Location 1: Inside my house. Not even in the driveway. (Small house so I can actually find the bathroom and kitchen without the GPS.)
Location 2: Inside my office at work.
Location 3: Inside my car, in my parking space at work. Not one packet received on the drive home according to the diagnostic screens.
This basically means it is useless in its current condition. Has anybody had any better luck using it in Miami? If so my adapter is possibly bad or is the service unusable in Miami?
I have tried the cord loose horizontally and about three or four vertical loops plastic tied to the stem of the Arkon floor mount. Any suggestions would be welcome because I think it would be useful if I can get it to work.
Don't know what changed
About a couple of days ago it started working. It still does not show any signal but when I get in the car to go to work it seems to have fresh data on road conditions now.
I actually had it give me an alternate route to work because of traffic delays on the expressway this morning and a delay current accident warning on Friday going to work, Friday it kept the normal route but showed a 3 minute delay.
If it keeps working then the MSN traffic integration is a nice feature.

I live in the DC suburbs. Whenever I check the signal, it appears dead, but the unit is updating.
Once you drive around, or fiddle around with the unit, you'll understand it a bit better. Try this somewhere where you know you'll get a signal, and after you've got a full charge on the GPS and the adapter. I do this in my office. Connect everything (GPS, stand, traffic receiver), and run the GPS on battery power. Get to the MSN diagnostic screen on the GPS. (From the map, press on arrival time/speed to get to the trip screen, then press/hold on the speedo to get to the status/diagnostics screens, then press Next until you get to the MSN direct status screen (for me this is 9 or 10 times). Once on the MSN status screen, you'll get to see the unit updating itself. All these values are zero if the MSN cable is not connected to the Garmin. With the cable connected, it will show if you're getting a signal, what station it is, when the last packet was received, etc. It shows percentages for Rx All, Rx Gas, Rx Movie, Rx Weather, and Rx Traffic. These are percentage received for each category and overall. I've never seen movies go over 90%, but the others (except All) go to 100 after a while. Traffic usually updates first and fastest, so far it seems random what will update next.
Good Luck!
