Nuvi 765T Review

Has anyone seen any reviews on the new 765T yet? Is is worth the wait or should I just get a 700 series for my son?

Looks like they are just re-hashing what Garmin's web site says. The new features look ok, but you are paying a premium. The building thing does not look too useful to me (and I live around LA) I just really need to know the street names. The lane aware function might come in handy but I have never had a problem figuring out what lane I need to be in. Now a lifetime traffic update sounds great if it can keep up. I have heard mixed results about Garmin's traffic updating.

The cool thing is that the new Nuvi's are driving down prices of the older discontinued lines. Low $300 series 6xx are looking pretty good now.

Garmin Drive Smart 55 - Samsung Note 10 Smartphone with Google Maps & HERE Apps

Does it come with 4.0 FW?

Just kidding...

It's looks pretty slick. Those ads are a lot less obtrusive than I thought they'd be. I don't know why I was thinking "pop-up ads" or something over the screen like tv shows do. I hope those go away if you use a MSN receiver.

755T Review

Does anyone know if you hook up an MSN receiver to the 755, if the traffic ads go away? It would seem silly to have ad show up even when not using the free traffic.

I'll ask Garmin.

Advertisements - 755T

From the PC Mag review.

"One gripe: The nüvi 755T comes with advertisements. My evaluation unit arrived with three preloaded vendors (BP, Walgreens, and Wells Fargo). When you access the traffic menu, one of these advertiser's names always appears at the bottom of the screen. Also, from time to time, one of these ads will pop up on the map view screen (they won't appear when you are in motion). A single tap of the advertisers' name will perform a POI search for nearby retail locations. Unfortunately, you can't disable these ads, but it's likely that they help Garmin offset the cost of the live traffic information that it offers free."

No way, no how will I buy this unit. Do you suppose Garmin charges vendors for inclusion in the POIs?

Thanks rjrsw for the link to the review. I was considering buying one to replace my NUVI 5000.

Ads

The traffic is almost useless so all you have to do it turn it off and not see any ads. The rest of the 755 is fine and I like it better than my 760. Expensive, but it's my Christmas present to me. mrgreen

Ad Free MSN on 765t

I have both a 750 with MSN and 765t, when the 765 is attached to the MSN I see no ads. After a week with 765 I am very impressed, even some of the gimmicky stuff like the 3d buildings actually turn out to be helpful when available, they give you a visual reference point as to where you are. As far as the ads when using Navteq traffic I have only seen one b/c you have to be stopped for 10 seconds before they appear and it was unobtrusive and dissappeared as soon as I was moving again.

The New 7xx series

Having a 360, a 660 and a 780, I'm impressed with their ability to get me from one place to another. I’ve looked at the new 7xx series and some of the new stuff sure looks good. My only problem with it is that the GPS is supposed to help the driver stay focused on the road, NOT on the Nuvi. Since I do most of my traveling alone, I don’t think I want to be watching the screen more than the road. Sometimes, to much can be just that - too much.

The Nuvi 765 much faster than 760, new processor pick up satellite signal faster. Pros: traffic included. Cons: advertise & price. Bestbuy with coupon 10% off go for $540

within the Garmin product line,

which of the newer units would have this faster processor? How do I identify it?

thx.

(I read a fresh review of the 765T and they commented on how much faster it is.)
