Organization Under "Custom POIs" on GPS

How can I get the list under "Custom POIs" on my GPS in alphabetical order?

Here is what I have in my POI file on my computer:

And here is what shows up on my GPS under Where to > Extras > Custom POIs

It seems that they are organized by possibly the file/folder created by date or last modified date.

Something doesn't add up here. There is a Rest Areas category on the GPS, but I don't see it in your computer file structure.

Do you have multiple gpi files? That's the only thing I can think of that would explain the Rest Areas category. It would appear that some of your POI files are not stored in sub-folders, but are just stored in the main folder. If you create sub-folders for for every POI file, and you load everything into one gpi file, you should get what you want.

Rest Area & Others

Sorry, I didn't mention that Rest Area is stored on the GPS (as Rest Area.gpi) its self and the rest are on the SD card (as poi.gpi). I don't mind if the rest area is out of order, but if possible I'd like to get the rest in order.

I tried putting them all in their own folders, but that didn't change anything.

EDIT:
I did this:

And got the same thing under Custom POIs

Did you delete the gpi files on the card? Like I said, you need to put everything into a single gpi file.

Deleted gpi files...

Deleted all gpi files on unit and sd card. Still not in alphabetical order under Custom POIs.

I had seen this. As he said "As the device alphabetizes the Custom POIs.....", however my GPS is not alphabetizing items in Custom POIs

GOT IT!!

My initial hunch was correct. My GPS (nuvi 200) does not sort Custom POIs alphabetically, but sorts it by when the file/folder was last created/modified.

I went and created a new main POI folder and then created new sub folders and matched up the alphabetical order of the file name with the order the file was created. For example Bars & Breweries went with the first created folder and Toyota USA went with the last folder created. Loaded through POI loader and presto.

I tested this by downloading all the AAA locations in the us and created that file & folder last. Sure enough it came up last on the list.

The next question would be, is my GPS organizing them like this, or is POI Loader organizing them like this for the GPS when converting them into a .gpi file?

Edit:
However this only works if you have just one .gpi file (as bentbiker stated above). If you have multiple .gpi files, such as one for express mode and one for setting proximity or speed manually, it looks at when the sub-folder was created if there are multiple files in that folder, If the sub-folder has only one file in it, it looks at when that file (not folder) was created/last modified. It then organized files & folders by created/last modified from both .gpi files, intermixing files/folders from the .gpi files according to the created/last modified date.

I hope that makes sense...confused

Folders

I did notice one thing on your list http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa74/herm0162/CompScreen that your folder view is list. When you click on view and scroll down to arrange icons by, it does not give you the auto arrange option. If you go to view and change from list to icons and scroll down to arrange icons by and make sure name and auto arrange are marked it will be done automatic for the correct order.

List vs Detail

Even better, use the Detail view. You get sorting bars at the top so you can sort by alpha, date, file size, creation date, etc. And all can be set for ascending or descending order with a single click.
