red light cameras

Has anyone downloaded a file for red light cameras in Canada and USA, so it can be loaded onto TT XL330?

Is it .ov2?

If your GPSr uses .ov2 formatted files and you convert the 'red light files' from .csv format into .ov2 format then you shouldn't have a problem loading the files into your unit.

I have a TT One and I've downloaded 'red light' files from the Factory, converted to .ov2 format and loaded into my unit with no problems yet! wink

just wondering

When you drag the file that I have downloaded from "MY COMPUTER" into GPS where the file folder is, "MAPS", do I need to make a POI CATAGORY first, or will it make its own? Then do I set the warning distance?

Thank you

poi

when I did it I converted the file to TOMTOM format and then put the file and the icon for the file into the same folder as the map itself. It then appeared in the tomtom by itself.

conversion

im using poiedit to convert csv to ov2, is that what u guys are using?

Yup!

That's the only program/utility that I ever use! wink

why don't someone upload a converted ov2

it seems strange everyone has to convert the files. it would be nice to down load the correct file formate ov2. just a thought

nice site

You can use ...

You can use POI Verifier II (http://PoiVerifier.com) for a one step conversion of csv to ov2. It takes care of the quirks that make the PoiEdit conversion problematic. In addition, if the file has phone numbers in field 4, it will 'suck' out the phone numbers and make it dialable for TomToms that do dialing.

Now that's novel idea!

What a great idea! wink

Is this at all possible Miss POI? I'm sure that there are plenty of .ov2 POI's out there that mirror most, if not all, of the the POI's listed here at the POI Factory. idea

The SHEETZ website has both .csv and .ov2 file formats listed on their site for Garmin, Magellan, and TomTom users to download - why not us? smile

I'd volunteer

Even though I don't have a TomTom, I'd volunteer to help convert some of the more popular csv files to ov2. But first we need to decide:
1. Which files are going to be converted? (converting and posting ov2 files for all csv files would be a real challenge.)
2. What do we want in the data field?
(a) Name and Comment fields from the csv file?
(b) Or only the Name field from the csv file?
(c) Or the Name field and the Comment field's phone number from the csv file (for the dialers)?
3. Should the data field be limited to 63 characters?

I'm ready

I'd be more then happy to submit my .ov2 files to the cause!

Any other takers out there?

I'm a new user and just created my account. I'm trying to get a file for the Red Light & Speed Cameras throughout Florida.

Could someone help a rookie figure out how to get the POI files ?

Sometimes ya got to learn it for yourself.

Because then you would have nothing to learn, and you would stay Badge less. Just go for it and try it out.

Welcome to the site.

Read through the 'getting started' and 'faqs' sections linked at the top of each page. Those sections will provide you with TONS of information.

Click on the 'redlight cameras' tab and you will find the information about how to download the camera files to your computer.

Here's the basic procedure.

Download and install Garmin's POI Loader onto your computer in order to LOAD Custom POI files onto your GPS unit.

http://www8.garmin.com/products/poiloader/

Then create a folder on your computer for your Custom POI files.

Download and/or create whatever Custom POI files you want to load onto your GPS unit and place ALL of them in that folder and keep them there.

Attach your GPS unit to your computer with a USB cable. (Alternately, if you have a unit that will read the Custom POIs from the SD card, attach or insert the SD card to the computer.)

Run the POI Loader program that you installed to your computer and follow the prompts.

Select your GPS unit (or SD card if applicable) as the destination for the Custom POIs in the POI Loader screen. Use the drop down arrow if necessary.

When it asks for the location of the data, Select 'Browse ...' and navigate to the appropriate folder.

Select Manual or Express Mode using the drop down list. (Express Mode will set alerts based upon the data in the files. Manual Mode will allow you to set the alert information manually, if desired.)

If you select Manual instead of Express, you can set Proximity and Speed alerts for your POIs. (Note that the word "redlight" and the word "camera" in the filename will each produce an automatic alert.)

Follow the prompts.

great string - thanks!
