GPS skipping short cut

Hey I am planning a trip to Boise ID and noticed that my nuvi 360 used the interstate all the way. If I enter a via point on state hwy 221 it drops 9 miles and a few minutes off of my travel. If I ask it to take me from Prosser WA to Hermiston OR it will take that shortcut.
My Wifes Magellan 3225 also skips it on a long trip. Is that just to long of a trip for the GPS to notice the short cut? It does not matter if the Gps is set for shorter distance or faster time.

I noticed that too

Did you check your avoidances and whether you have picked to stick with major highways?

Yes

I don't have many avoidances set. It seems if it is quicker and shorter it should recommend that route.

How long are you going to be in town? We could have lunch;) I have not gotten a chance to meet any of the members of this community, I would love to meet you and your wife if you are around for a while.

Miss POI

Lunch?

Arriving Fri night, all day Sat and leaving Sun morning. I believe you have my e-mail address. My Mother in Law lives near the airport off of Vista

Let me know if you are bringing your boats and want to hit the Payette!

same here

I entered your route in my c530 and got the same results. There must be something about the mapping data from Navteq that causes the mapping logic to skip 221 and keep you on the Interstate.

Shorter route

When going from Desert Air( Near Matawa) to Spokane my 650 sent me through Othello to 395 then onto I-90, but coming back, it kept me on I-90 to Vantage and down. I assume that on the way back, since I was on a major highway it would keep me there for as long as possible
But from Desert air, since I was on a 2 lane road it would take me the shortest way. Don't know for sure but it seems feasible.

Make sure you get the updated version

I just uploaded a new one today as Inland Surf moved down the street. Have a safe trip. Gas at FredMeyer is $3.99! Yahoo....razz

GOT IT

downloaded the update, I hope I have time to use it. My wife flew out last night, if it were Cabela's I would just sneak into town early and check it out but if my wife finds out I went to a whitewater shop she might get mad that I did not take her. We used to do a lot of canoing. Our peak was 1990 when we ran the Middle fork of the Salmon at about 3.75 on the gauge.
After that we got a raft and with the kids we have only been doing one wilderness trip a year. This year I Finally got to canoe again. we ran the Rouge and it was running about 3,250 cfs I had not practiced but only swam twice and not in the big stuff.

Yea - I want to do the MF next year. My boys are both paddling IV and can watch out for their ol' Man smile

If you get a chance to drive up 55 I have a poi of Payette Rapids as well. Have a safe trip!
