Nuvi 750

Someone please verify what I already suspect. My friend just bought a 750 and has Mapsource that he got with his 2610. So he is trying to use Mapsource to create and upload a route to the 750. I am not familiar with his 750 but am quite familiar with Mapsource because I have a 2610 and a 2820. His Mapsource doesn't find the 750 so I am telling him I don't think you can upload routes to this model, but he is not about to give up, he thinks maybe you have to drag and drop the routes from Mapsource. The manual is kind of vague about the whole thing.

Getting access to the maps

Tell your friend to resister the 750 with Garmin online. This will start an Garmin account for him/her.

Once the account has been established her/she can go to their account and there under MyMaps >> Manage Maps should be as UNLOCK code for the maps on the 750.

Now start MapSource and use "Utilities >> Unlock Maps"
function. This should work.

When her/she goes to their account and the unlock code is not there, CALL Garmin (Do not send e-mail) and have the tech there help you get the unlock code.

Dan,

The 750 WILL accept routes from Mapsource (and they can also be built directly on the unit). I don't know why Mapsource isn't "seeing" his 750, but it may need to be updated (via Help/Check for Updates). Now, once the route is uploaded to the 750, he'll have to go to My Data, and import the route before it can be used on the device. I'm pretty sure that this is described on page 28 of the full users manual (available from Garmin).

I got to thinking about his being an older version of Mapsource, because his version dates back to his 2610. That might be the reason it doesn't see the 750. I know you don't have to get any unlock codes unless you are going to load maps, so you are probably right about updating his Mapsource.

Don

Before you update your mapsource do some reading on it, It is a major headache, there is some info on that here on the site, may take a while to find it tho, there are some sites that have the older verson of it, dont know what ver your looking for. but do yourself a favor and check it out before you do the download from Garmin.

Don, be sure your MapSource version is updated to at least 6.13.7.

Don't use the update tool inside MapSource as it rarely works properly.

You can get the 6.13.7 version update here ...

I wouldn't currently recommend that you use the latest version 6.14.1 just released this week.

MM - I think you know I never question your advice. Mainly because I, myself, have always found it to be very accurate. That being said, I've never had problems updating Mapsource via the Help/Check for updates. Assuming you HAVE had problems updating it that way, please let me know what those problems were.

Thanks in advance.......... Joel

I've NEVER (not once) had it work. Not ever. It always reports back that there aren't any updates.

You are right - kinda

Since I've had no problems in the past, I decided to try it again with 6.14.1. You are right - no updates. BUT, that update is for a TOPO Basemap patch, which, I don't think would have updated mine since I don't have a TOPO Basemap. I'll keep checking (via their website) and if a true program update shows up, I'll try it again and let you know what happens.

Thanks again....... Joel

The update page on their website is confusing.

That note and the subsequent link are separate from the MapSource program update which is linked just below that box.

I have version 6.13.7 myself, I am using the 2820 and have no problems. I was doing some checking for a friend that passed his 2610 to his wife and bought a 750 for himself. I am not familiar with the 750 but we couldn't get his MapSource to recognize the 750 and he had left the manual at work so I couldn't look at that. It didn't dawn on me at the time that the problem might be because he hasn't updated his MapSource. I'll call him tonight.

I agree with you on the updates, I always just download them.
