Forum Posts: Some Editable

Why can I edit SOME of my posts, but not all of them? Is there some glitch in the forums here, or is it something i did the removes the edit button?

I think it's when someone quotes you as I just did...

.

Once someone relies directly to your post by hitting the rely button, that post is no longer editable.

Clearing it up

Ahh.. got it. So if someone hits the Quote or Reply button on my actual post box, then im through. But if they do it on the first or someone elses, then editing is still possible.

(So if someone wants to be mean, they can go around clicking on a person's reply button so they cant fix their spelling mistakes.)

Thanks for clearing that up.

Extra Note

Just an addendum to this topic (as it has already been solved above)....

I tried to be 'brilliant' and create my own Edit Button when the button disappeared, by writing down the magic message number at the top when posting a message, and then entering as follows:

http://www.poi-factory.com/comment/edit/74358

(whereas the 74358 is the message number shown at the end of the URL when hitting the edit button immediately after submitting - at least of THIS message, yours will be different.)

This DOES work to allow you to edit without hitting the edit button (so long as an edit button is still visible). As soon as your edit button disappears, for the reasons above in this thread, so does this little trick, and the result says: "You do not have access...".

Anyway, I'm just adding this extra note to be thorough. A Test that pretty much fails. (but might inspire someone else to try something someday.) smile
