Does anybody know if you can get some kind of gadget for the C550 so the routing instructions come out the vehicle speaker?

Yep Garmin has what they are

Yep, Garmin has what they are calling a "Vehicle Integration Box" that does just that. Below is a link to the Garmin press release with more info. I'm pretty sure you can buy it on Garmin's website, but I know that I've seen them on both Amazon and eBay. Enjoy!

An FM transmitter would

An FM transmitter would work, but it wouldn't have the functionality of a "factory installed GPS unit". Because to hear audio through the FM transmitter, you need to be tuned into a specific radio station of your choice, typically one that is not in use by a local radio station or you'll get severe interference. So if you are tuned into the FM transmitter's station, you will hear the audio from the GPS come out of your speakers, but you won't be able to listen to your favorite radio station.
The integration box will let you listen to any radio station, CD, iPod, etc., and then when the GPS needs to speak, it will mute your radio station, CD, iPod, etc., the GPS will speak, and then your radio station, CD, iPod, etc. comes back on. That is how "factory" units work.
However, if you typically will only be listening to your mp3 files on your GPS, and not the radio, CD, or iPod, then a FM transmitter will work just fine for you. Because the GPS will be able to mute it's on mp3 playback while it is speaking and then resume the mp3 where it left off.
So if you like the radio, CD, or iPod, go for the integration box. If you only want to hear mp3s from your GPS, the FM transmitter is all you really need.

Sorry, that explanation was a lot longer than it sounded in my head. lol Hope it helped though..

you are right

Good explanation.

I'd also have to weigh the $150.00 vs $30.00 as well.

Depending on the area you

Depending on the area you live in though, finding a free FM frequency can be a bear. Living in So Cal these days an FM modulator is almost unacceptable.
