2009 Garmni Map Update

That sounds very wrong. CALL Garmin, don't mess around with email. It's a free call. 1-800-800-1020. Can't you purchase from Amazon.com? It would be cheaper than buying from Garmin.

Thanks for the info. I'll take a look at Amazon.com. Garmin doesn't seem to be interested north of the US border, but I will call their 800 number to check it out.

I bought my 2009 update here for $51. Had it in 2 days.

I bought my Nuvi 760 within the last 30 days and was able to download the 2009 map for free. If you have to buy and are a Costco member, you can get the map at the Costco web site for just under $50.

I think you will find out it has to do with export licenses. Certain high tech items are not allowed to be exported the normal way. I am sure Garmin would sell you direct the item if they were allowed to by the US GOV.

Thanks for the feed back. No, it certainly isn't COMMUNISM - especially here in Canada - perhaps elsewhere... I contacted Garmin and was given a detailed explanation.
As mentioned in a previous post, it has to do with Customs regulations: taxes, cross border shopping, etc.
Garmin gave me several Canadian contacts that distribute their products (in Canadian dollars). The good news is that it is considerably cheaper in $CAN. Apparently NAFTA applies to electronics (but perhaps not to some sales direct from USA companies). Consequently I have to go through a Canadian distributor. Garmin was very helpful and apologized for any inconvenience. I felt that was very gracious of them. They certainly take their customers seriously.

I just purchased the same 760 from Costco but I don't see the option for a free upgrade to the 2009 maps. Wonder if I did something wrong during the registration?

costco online, they sent me an offer to purchase the update for I believe it was $59.00

Is the Costco for a DVD or downloadable version?

You need to call Garmin. There's a glitch with the 7xx series where they show the wrong first acquisition date. Call them and they will fix it.

MM is correct. CALL Garmin. They can fix it for you and then you will see the option for the free update on your my.garmin page.
