Garmin's Bobcat software for Mac

I am using the replacement software for Mapsource for Mac call Bobcat(http://www8.garmin.com/macosx/). This post has a couple purposes. The first is to get more people using Bobcat so that Garmin has more feedback. The other is to start discussion about how it works or doesn't work.

I am using Bobcat with Nuvi 760 on a older PPC G5 powermac. Bobcat seem to run well on the Mac, only crashed once in 10 days of use.

It seems to be a little bit of Mapsource and POIloader put together. There are a couple of other new Garmin Mac programs as well. MapInstall and MapManger the Bobcat program wants the Mapinstall program to be installed to work right.

Lastly there is a Garmin Communicator Plugin for Mac that should let you link with Google Earth and other online mapping programs. I have been able to install it and the Garmin test website says that it is working but no luck working with Google Earth on my machine. Everytime I tell Google Earth to connect to the GPS it unmounts the GPS but can not find it.

Is anyone else working with Bobcat. I am trying to understand Bobcats relationship with installing POI as it seem to load them differently the POIloader.

Been Using It

Experimenting mostly - I've done everything I used to do with the assorted programs on the PC with the Bobcat, POI Loader, & Web Updater on my MacBook Pro so far without any issues.

Csv to Gpx

I have been using Bobcat for a while. In order to view a csv file in Bobcat, I have to convert it to a gpx file. I use the csv to gpx converter to do that.

I just updated Bobcat to Version 2.0.0.5 Beta

Bobcat usage icons

Have you had any luck with getting the icon for waypoints to upload correctly with Bobcat? I can import a GPX file and then set all of the icon in Bobcat to what I want but when I send it to my Nuvi they all come out as flags.

I'm not sure

I use the Garmin Poi Loader "Version 2.0.2.1 Beta" for the Nuvi and load csv files, custom icons, and mp3 alerts together. The locations show up in my "Extras" folder on the Nuvi.

I use Bobcat to verify the csv files I've created to make sure they are not in the middle of a lake. I've not done much exporting from Bobcat to the Nuvi. I'm not positive, but I believe when you export from Bobcat the locations are loaded into "Favorites" on the Nuvi.

Mac - PC Query

If one has a Mac and a PC, does anyone know if you can use both POI loaders on the same Garmin unit or is it best to consistently use one or the other?

I use either

I use either my Mac or my PC to load POIs with POI Loader - don't seem to have any problems with either of my units, they don't seem to care which puter I use !

Bobcat Custom Waypoint

Hi I am using bobcat and I love it for the most part. I just have one question. I have some custom waypoints that I have made and uploaded to my gps unit. In map source on the pc I can add these same custom waypoints so that the show up when I upload the waypoints from my gps unit in Bobcat however there does not seem to be a way to handle this... Can you make custom waypoints for bobcat? if so how? Thanks

Bobcat POI's to csv file

My 260 is full and I have started using csv files for input. I've been managing them in a database. I would like to empty my unit and copy all of those places into a csv file so I can add them to my database. Then I can use the internal storage area for new places I find on the road. Then I can periodically add those to my data base.

How do I get all of these data out of the unit without having to do each one manually (with get info in bobcat and cut and pasting each Lon and Lat)?

GPS memory or just favorites

What exactly is it that is full? Do you mean the GPS has no free space left? Or do you mean you filled up the 500 favorites and want to clear out the favorites into POI files instead?

the 500 favorites are full. I want to convert the favorites to a csv file and then delete them all. then I will have my favorites in a file and be able to add new favorites.

This worked

"GPS Visualizer most certainly can produce a CSV file from GPS data.
Use the plain text converter, and select "comma" as the output
delimiter:"

http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/convert_input?convert_delimiter...

I pasted the output into excel and then imported it into Filemaker.
