Nuvi 350 upgrade to 760

Best Buy had the 760 online for $349. Happy Fathers Day - to me! I was already thinking of upgrading and this special with free shipping tipped the scales. I used In-Store Pickup and got it today. They were $449 on the shelf in the store. grin

What a difference over the 350! I just really wanted routes. The rest of the stuff were extras. Or so I thought...

Besides the bigger screen, it has a much wider viewing angle and the contrast is much higher. The text is sharper and easier to read. The resolution seems significantly higher, too. It's much more readable in daylight.

It came with 2008 maps but it was recognized for the free upgrade right away. I wanted the disc for $10 shipping and did not download. I can wait.

In the meantime, I already have MapSource installed from the 350 so I built a circuitous route around town and it downloaded and off we went. Half way through, the 760 got off course and then crashed. When I restarted and picked the route again, it would go to calculating and then abort with "not enough memory". Sure enough, my practice route that I generated from MapSource w/2009 had gone off the 2008 map in the 760 and it could not recover until I got back onto a street that it knew. Switching MapSource to 2008 and trying again had no more troubles after that.

It seems to update the screen significantly faster than the 350 while I'm driving.

It is not as accurate as the 350 with it's flip out antenna. Side by side on my dash, the 350 settled at 14 feet and the 760 settled at 19 feet. I don't see that this will make any real difference in actual driving, and it looks much better without the flap hanging out. The 760 lost signal when I went into my basement, the 350 does not.

Anyway, this is a big improvement over the 350 in may ways and I'm really happy I took the plunge.

I had asked many questions on here about the 760 from those who had them and really want to thank those who responded. I had a good number of technical questions about how the routing engine worked while using a saved or downloaded route. I read every review I could find elsewhere, but the input from the users here was far more useful. Thanks again!
