flaco signing out

Thank you guys for all the well wishes, just pray for the price of diesel to drop some.

It sounds like an expensive trip when it comes to fuel but my buddy and I will be splitting the cost and will probably be expending the stimulus check so Saudi Arabia can get richer.

I got my buddy's Nuvi all full of goodies to lessen the lodging expenses by staying at military campgrounds and the local Wal-Mart when no cheap campgrounds can be found.

I'll be seeing you guys some time in August, keep the board alive.

Flaco over and out...

Alaska trip

My wife and I plan to do a trip like this... maybe in 2009.
I wish you a safe trip. By the way, from what I can find on the internet, there are many places you can find free wi-fi on the trip. Many of the campgrounds have it. I have heard that some truckstops also have it.

wi-fi

Yeap, I also loaded the free wi-fi, plus the dump stations, rest stops, red light, military campgrounds and several more that escape my mind.

This was an impromptu trip for me since the guy who was supposed to go with my buddy backed out and I could not pass on this offer, neither my wife nor his wanted to make the trip,so it will be two old man against the wilderness.

He added an extra 100 gal tank on the bed of the truck so prior to crossing into Canada we will fill up both tanks since diesel is really expensive across the border, 135 gal should be enough to make into Alaska after we cross the Canadian border.

keeping the windmill going

Just a quick update, made it thru GA, VA, KY, and now OH, leaving tomorrow for Kalamazoo MI

Weather has been dandy, will have plenty stuff to post when we get back to Tampa.

WI-FI are easy to find but not much time to do this stuff, McDonalds gives 1 hour coupons when you eat there and we all know you can find Micky D in every corner.

Catch you guys later.

diesel price

Thanks for checking the Canadian price, we have a 100 gallon tank mounted in the bed of the pickup (empty at this time) and we will be filling it up before crossing the border to Canada.

Leaving tomorrow morning for a campsite near Yellostone.

Right now we are camped at Ellsworth AFB home of the B1 and they have WI-FI inside the Famcamp

Gas War

They actually had a mini-gas war in Dallas and Denton, TX last week. A Quik Trip and a RaceTrac station in each city dropped their regular gas to 3.69/gallon while most other stations were 3.90+.

I saw that the two Denton staions raised theirs to 3.83 Saturday night, but it was still cheaper than the other nearby stations. Not sure if the 2 in Dallas ended their war yet.

almost there

Just another short update of my travels.
After staying a couple days at Great Falls Montana to recuperate from our previous day (500 + miles) fron Cody WY thru Yellostone we headed north and crossed the border yesterday after an hour wasted while they did the paper work and searched the camper.

Last nite we stayed in a site near Edmonton CA, today we drove a little over 300 miles after having some electrical dificulties with the pickup, tonight we are camped at the Alaska Hwy mile marker zero near the town of Dawson Creek, temperature in the upper 50 and winds blowing steady around 30mph

Looking forward to a good trip tomorrow and expect to be in Fairbanks by Saturday (guess we will celebrate the 4th in Canada)

Untill next update

The Al/Can hwy is worst that what we expected, after driving this road I will never again complain about the pot holes in Tampa.

Wifi is great, isn't it.

Sorry for the delay

We have arrived back in Tampa from our 12600 miles trips to Alaska, when time permits I'll post a detailed version of our treck accross America.
