Nice find...

This is really cool, how much do they run now?

Remember

These are not TTS voices.

Nuvi 660.

fun

It still could be fun. Pick up the in-laws from Texas, turn on the GPS with GW giving directions... On second thought, not such a good idea..

Voices

Hi everybody, well I was the sucker to go try it 3 days ago. Since I have a nuvi 660 I was directed to download the Garmin Installer for the pigtone voices first and then purchase and download a voice or voices. I decided on the arnold guvenator voice and followed all the steps to the end where it stated that the voice was successfully loaded onto my device. I checked the voice file for my GPSr and found it there but it was under a "vup file" format and not a "vpm file" format like the other Garmin voices. Sure enough after I had disconnected my device from my computer and powered it on I was unable to find the arnold voice option on my device, it had American Jill and the other usual suspects, but no arnold! I suspect that that the 660 will not recognize vup files and I've not found a way to convert them to vpm. Of course pigtones never mentioned this and I haven't heard back from them in 3 days since I've fired off an email to their customer support dept. and I didn't see a phone number for them either. Their FAQ page is blank also. This certainly doesn't look good mad Anyways I will be pursuing getting back my $13 and change CA through Paypal soon. Been busy the past few days so I haven't posted about this bad experience until now.

Update

Well I finally received an email from pigtones late yesterday. They will refund my account and they asked if I wanted to be a beta tester for their products as they try to "work out the bugs"....like the incompatible voice files. Sounds like a real work-in-progress.

Cool

Glad they got back to you. I still think this would be a fun product to have, once it works...

My sentiments exactly, we'll see what happens.

www.pigtones.com site, I emailed and got some info

I sent them an email, on my GPS unit. when i asked about the .vpm file, they said they had wraped the .vpm in a .vup file, sorta propriatary. it said that they could only load one voice on the GPS at a time (garmin anyway) for now, and it was "american_english" in the system. check that one to see if its your voice. they let me know that they were working on getting the garmin to recognize the differnt names. said check back with them mid next month.
hope that helps.

they said they had no problems with the tom tom tho. hmmm maybe ill trade my garmin for my wifes tomtom. wink she has 2 cool voices now.

thanks guys

Info

Thx for the info..will wait for someone to figure how to use the file

I don't think it worth it.

Pigtones VUP Files

You need to use the (free) download program available on the main page of the Pigtones web site.

Once you install this program, you can then double-click on your purchased VUP file, and it will allow you to 'install' the VUP file into your Garmin.

I have the Nuvi 660, and it worked just fine, and my GPS is saying all sort of quite inappropriate things.

You need to choose "American English" to hear the new, custom file you purchased.

Also, once you've bought and downloaded the VUP file, you can install it to as many GPS devices as you have!
