How do I Link GPX files to create subcategories

Here's my complex situtation. I have 3 seperate gpx files, Dallas, Houston and Austin. When I use POI loader, nuvi 350 displays those 3 files seperately under Custom POI. I would like to have one folder that says Texas under Custom POI; then when you click into that have subfolders that say the cities. Does anyone know how to link these files together using "notepad" so when I use POI loader it will show up as "one folder" in custom POI's rather than seperate files?

Is it with the folder name in between? Or do I just change the to be the same in all files notepad? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

FYI...I know how to do this is mapsource but merging in Mapsource is not an option since it alters the files. I want to stick to the code page if possible.

Thanks

Paul, on your hard drive

Paul, on your hard drive create a folder named CustomPOIs. In that folder create a folder named Texas. In the texas folder put your individual GPX files. Run POI loader and point to the CustomPois folder. It will load all the sub folders and files. In your Garmin you will see Texas and when you click that, you will see the individual towns.

I use this technique and it works fine. If you don't follow my directions, let me know and I will be happy to help you.

Hope you love you Mini. I loved mine, but gave it up for a slightly larger car. I mounted my Nuvi from the lip of the sunroof on a custom brass bracket. It was GREAT because it was darn near invisible unless you got down very low and looked up. No problems with it being stolen or even seen!

Paul, you should be able to do what you are asking just by creating folders on your PC.

This is an example of how I do it. I think that the way the National Parks subfolder is set up is what you are describing.

You create the folder on your computer. Create a main folder for your Custom POI files. You can have subfolders under your main folder, if you want. The folders will create categories. You can't have more than one level of subfolder. The files themselves will create the subcategory.

When you run POI Loader, you will select the main folder as the source of the data.

You can have subfolders under your main folder, if you want. The folders will create categories. You can't have more than one level of subfolder. The files themselves will create the subcategory.

For example, it might look like this.

> My POI (Main folder)
>> IHOP (subfolder)
... IHOP.csv
... IHOP.bmp
>> National Parks (subfolder)
... National Parks.gpx
... National Monuments.gpx
... National Recreation areas.gpx
... National Parks.bmp
... National Monuments.bmp
etc.

In this example, IHOP and National Parks show up as categories and then under National Parks, the subcategories of National Parks, National Monuments, and National Recreation Areas show up.

Here are some screenshots of what it would look like.

This is a shot of the folder and files on my computer.

This is how the first level shows up on my GPS unit.

When I select the National Parks category, this is what I get.

Then if I select National Monuments, I get this.

POI Sub Folders

So it does work but the slight problem is that it will not accept the pictures since it is now a different path. I tried to go into notepad and just type the extra folder in the url link but when I try and load it it says invalid file. So, I guess if I want the sub folders and the tour guide pictures, I have to go in and re-link it in mapsource. I think I will do that to re-edit all the files since it does clean up the nuvi screen nicely.
