Traffic Reciever (nuvi 760 and MSN)

I have Nuvi 760.
My trial FM traffic expired.
Can I use this reciever for MSN, or does it require a different Reciever. Thanks

MSN

Oh, no. You can order MSN. That's what I did with my 760. I really have enjoyed the MSN. The thing to remember when you get the MSN, at first, you will only have MSN v1. Go to Webupdater, and you will be able to download the upgrade to MSN v2.

Wish I knew that a few days

Wish I knew that a few days ago. I returned my 760 and upgraded to the 780 just to get MSN. I wasn't that impressed with the other traffic service and the MSN just seemed to be a better value. Oh well, I still got a good deal and only paid $50 more than my 760.

There's a lot of helpful knowledge on this board.

You still have a great

You still have a great receiver! It's basically the 760 with MSN. Nice unit

I agree

So far I'm happy with it. One very cool feature that I just found was the fact that when you use maps.live.com you can send a POI to your unit wirelessly. I tried it last night and when I checked my unit this morning there it was. That is so much easier then using google maps because I usually keep my unit in the car and it's inconvenient to keep having to connect it to my PC just to save POIs

Are the antennas the same?

I have a 760 (my FM subscription expires in June) and I am not all that impressed with the traffic receiver. It takes a long time to "receive" and I am usually stuck in traffic by the time it activates. So I was thinking of switching to MSN when the subscription expires, but I thought I had to buy a different antenna/power plug. I saw them for about $120 with a 1 year MSN subscription included. Is there a way to just buy an MSN subsription without a new antenna? Thanks

Yes, the Web Favorites is

Yes, the Web Favorites is great!

No, the antenna is in the

No, the antenna is in the plug, just like the traffic receiver.

I have the 760 as well. If you do get the MSN, make sure you hook up your 760 to Webupdater so it can download the extra MSN pieces. The 760 with MSN only has version 1. The Webupdater will download what you need to upgrade to version 2. With version 2, you get News, Stocks, Local Events, and the Web Favorites where you can go to maps.live.com and send maps to your 760. It is really great!

Just to confirm

Since your last 2 posts seem to contradict each other...I DO have to buy a new antenna to receive MSN, correct?
Thanks

Sorry for the confusion. Not

Sorry for the confusion. Not really an antenna. When you buy MSN, it comes with the cord. The antenna or whatever you want to call it, is in the cord, similar to the TMC Traffic cord that comes with the 760.

Sorry for the confusion. If you have already purchased the MSN and plugged it in, you don't need anything else.

Thanks

That clears it up. Do you know of any web site where the price may be better than others. The only place I've seen it is at Crutchfield for $125.

Is there a yearly fee for

Is there a yearly fee for MSN and if so what is it?
Thanks,JRO

Not sure where to buy

Not sure where to buy cheaper.

When you buy MSN Direct, it comes with the connector cable and 1 yr of activation. When you register, the give you an opportunity to get another 6 months service for $9.99. After that, it is $49.95 per year or you can pay a 1 time $129 fee for lifetime. However, they tell you that it is not guaranteed after Jan 1, 2012 in fine print at the bottom. So, you never know.

I have enjoyed it
