(Temporary) Cheap Gas

In these times of rapidly escalating gas prices, and for those passing thru NJ, here is something to remember:

The NJ Highway Authority, which runs the NJ Turnpike and Garden State Parkway, has a contract for gas vendors that stipulates that prices can only be changed once a week, Thursday at midnight. Last week, when the price of gas was $3.40+, gas on the NJT and GSP was $3.17 right up until Friday at 12:01AM, at which time it jumped to $3.39.

Where it remains thru Thursday. Gas in my neighborhood is up over $3.50.

Gosh in my neighborhood they can raise the price on gas thats been in the ground for 3 weeks. I have seen it go up because I was in to big of a hurry to stop on the way to the grocery store .44 a gallon.
I could only wish prices would only go up one a week, I've seen prices change 3 times in one day.

Of course, when it time to roll the prices back thats totally a different story.

Not possible to maintain a POI list for cheap gas here.

Gas prices

Gas prices here change from morning to evening. Yesterday I filled up at a station where I had a 10¢ per gallon discount. After the discount the gas was still $3.78 per gallon. Bleh.....

find cheap gas with Garmin

Garmin Mobile XT has an online feature that locates fuel stations near your position and sorts them by distance or cost. Great fun when you are far from home and looking for a deal on fuel pricing!

I saw 4.69 for the cheap

I saw 4.69 for the cheap stuff in lake Tahoe this past week.

New stunt they're pulling

Here in Michigan, the latest craze is one price for cash, ten to thirty cents per gallon more for credit. Am I the only person who sees something WRONG with this ? shock

All merchants are charged a percentage of the sale by the credit card companies, when the price of gas was cheap the gas stations absorbed the charge as the price of doing business; now that gas prices have gone thru the roof and filling up could run over $100 the owners would prefer we pay in cash so the can keep their profit margin close to what it was before, the price difference is the incentive to make us do it.

Gotta Love NJ

For a State that does not trust it's citizens to fill up their own tank, you sure do have some low prices.
