I your NUVI is registered with Garmin is it automatically locked or is some other action required?

You have to do it, there is a way to do it, but not knowing what model you have cant help you on that, BUT. more than likely if you go to the wrench==system= should see a garmin lock icon, this will get you started anyway and also Check this link and see if it will help you out,

From the Quick Start Manual for the Nuvi 760:
1. Touch Tools>Settings>Security
2. Touch the button below Garmin Lock
3. Enter a 4-digit PIN and drive to a security location

NOTE: If you forget your PIN and your security location, you must send youir nuvi to Garmin to get it unlocked. You must also send a valid product registration or proof of purchase.
