How do you access Mapsource created route in nuvi 360?

Hi all;

I requested a copy of Mapsource from Garmin tech support. They did not give me any hassle and sent it for free.

Now that I have Mapsource, I created a route with 2 way points. I sent this to my nuvi via the "send to device." I also saved the route in a .gpx file, and copied this to the SD card.

I went to the nuvi to lookup the route. No luck. The way points showed up in the "favorites", but no routes? In addition, I can't seem to access the SD card except for MP3's.

Any help would be appreciated!

Mapsource

I can't answer for the nuvi, however the StreetPilot c530 also did not come with Mapsource, however they did send it to me on request. One of the reasons they don't provide it is that many of the functions don't work with GPS units that have all the maps built-in. For the purpose of sending data back and forth between the PC and the GPS, the only function that does work is moving waypoints to favorites on the GPS and back. You cannot place a route from Mapsource to the c530.

mapsource

It's my understanding that the nuvi line does not support this routing that you are tying to do. I went down the same road with my 360, no pun intended smile

hopefully someone will tell us otherwise.

So is it worth it?

Is it worth using the unlock code that comes with the 360 to put Mapsource on your computer? Are there any other uses for this code? And if you use it for this, is it reusable for any other purpose?

Using Mapsource

I use it on my PC to check out a route before leaving the house, especially on a long trip. Looking at the maps from a distance, you might find some side trips you want to take and can upload the waypoints to the Favorites on the Garmin. Then you can enter at least one of them as a mid point.

Also useful for downloading places that I select as favorites on the Garmin. Can use that data for making POI's and uploading them back to the GPS. (Not a strong advantage).

i agree. being able to see

i agree. being able to see the whole trip on the map is a real advantage.

also

I haven't tried yet, but I believe you should be able to save your current "favorites" via mapsource. This could be useful should you need to do a complete reset one day.
When I was playing around with my "free copy" I noticed all of my favorites were listed. I just didn't think at the time to try and save them.
I agree with looking at a map of the whole trip to be an advantage as well. Peace of mind and having an idea of what's ahead if nothing else. Maybe it's just old school of looking and plotting on a paper map...LoL

No Mapsource routes to Nuvi line

Well,

Just received an email back from Garmin tech support. The story is, Nuvi product line does not accept routes created in Mapsource. "Only waypoints can be saved/transferred to/from a Nuvi. Users will have to lookup and save waypoints and navigate the waypoints one at a time."

Oh well, perhaps an improvement will be forthcoming.
