Resetting Garmin 250W

I first loaded some POIs to my device itself (instead of my SD card). However, I wanted to start all over again and load them to my SD card. When I load them to my SD card, it duplicates my the names of the POIs. When I try to reset my Garmin 250W by pushing on the lower right hand corner while powering it on, it asks if I would like to clear all user data. I select Yes, however, my custom POIs are still listed under Extras. I tried even using the reset button, but still no luck. Any suggestions on how I can reset it back to stock?

The nuvi 6xx series goes into maintenance mode when pressing upper-left when powering it on. Select YES to go into maintenance mode, then select "Clear Waypoints". I'm not sure if this will work with the 2xx series.

Hope this helps

.

Connect your nuvi to your computer and delete the POI.GPI file to delete all the loaded Custom POIs. Then you can start over.

Thanks Mama

Thank you Mama. Worked like a charm.

Curious, doesn’t your 250w have a reset button on the bottom of the unit? I tried the reset button on my GPSr and it cleared everything.

The reset button shouldn't

The reset button shouldn't clear anything, it is basically a fresh reboot.

POILoader can delete that.

I believe when you hook up your Nuvi to computer, and start POILoader. You have an option to delete the custom POIs through POILoader.

garmin 250

Hi,

I decided to backup my files of my garmin 250 on my pc. And so I did. When I tried to move all the files back onto my nuvi, it keeps telling me that the disk in the destination drive is full. I looked on the bottom of my nuvi and it does not have a reset button. When I plug my nuvi to my pc and read it's properties, it says that I am using up 519 MB...even though i've emptied all files from my nuvi. I have all the files backed up and yet it says i'm using 519 MB. Someone please help me.

why did you think you needed to reload

Why did you think you needed to reload the Nuvi from the backup files? All you did was make a copy of them.

My experience is I can do a copy of the contents, but the restore operation is file-by-file to replace a damaged or missing file. The better source for missing operational files is from Garmin itself through Web Updater.

I was thinking of purchasing

I was thinking of purchasing the updated map online, but I was told to make a backup of all the files first. Silly me, cut and pasted it all as opposed to just dragging it to my pc which obviously creates a copy and keeps all original files in the nuvi. And my problem is not so much missing operational files...my problem is my nuvi is saying that I am using up 519 MB of internal memory on my nuvi, even though i have already removed all files, therefore not letting me transfer the map back in. So I guess I need to know how to clear it all out.

I think

a call to garmin might be in order here. They can tell you exactly what to look for and how to fix it. Resist any attempt that tells you to ship it back - just ask for a supervisor.

Thanks. That sounds best.

Thanks. That sounds best. One thing before I do: I heard there is a hidden recycle bin built in all garmin gps'. Does this sound familiar? I also heard that when you move or delete files from your gps, it will automatically move a copy of it to the recycle bin...therefore creating a limited amount of space. Do you know how to access the recycle bin from the gps?

first

First I've heard of it. Maybe that's why it would be hidden but that would then create a problem when you manually deleted files such as extraneous help, voice, and text files as well as old poi files.

Only on a Mac. Some people have claimed Window might do it, but I've never been able to duplicate it. And yes I know how to show hidden files.

It may help to Empty the Trash on your Desktop before disconnecting, but I don't think it will help.

Resetting Garmin Custom POI

Most probably problem is trashcan created by some application like Apple Finder. Please empty the trashcan when garmin connected or delete .trashes directory from root of garmin file system using terminal or use Linux or Windows machine to delete it. Maybe the same problem can be caused by Windows Explorer (I do not know I do not own one).

Garmin can picup the once found .gpi even it is moved to trachcan
