I just called them.. back a 2nd time after reading this post. (my unit is c530 just got yeaterday) it has version 8 maps loaded on it).

the FIRST guy i spoke with pretty much told me too bad my unit has the 2006 maps on it and since it was no longer in production I'd just have to wait a few months and buy the 2009 map version.

then i read this post and called Garmin Support back.. I got a nice lady..

She is shipping me out version 2008 for FREE!! Said a couple weeks and it should arrive! Gave me an order # & everything.

A little persistance paid off this time.

*S*

Sounds like it

Do a search on this site on MapSource and you will get a good idea what to expect from it.

WILL IT NOT DO WHAT THEY SAY

WILL IT NOT DO WHAT THEY SAY IT WILL? MAKE MAPS ABLE TO TRANSFER TO MY GPSR?

Free...

I got mine for free on the first call. Garmin is sweet, but they need to have some sort of guidelines for this type of things. Consistancy across the board would be nice.

hey werskine

I don't kow your answer, but getting the DVD for 15 bucks .. I wouldda paid that in a heartbeat. Sounds like your issue was a little different than mine though.

*S* cool

Mapsource doesn't make maps

From what I understand, cause I don't actually have mapsource, you can create waypoints and transfer them to your GPSr, or if you have routing (nuvi7xx series) you can transfer routes that you created in mapsource.

If someone with mapsource knows different, please advise him differently.

make waypoint

You can make waypoints and transfer them to the sd card and read them on the gpsr, you cant make routes tho, need to save them as a gpx file and use poi loader to load them, and they show up as individual waypoints.i did it with mapsource and using a Nuvi 650. Hope this helps you .

John

I called them

I called last week and they said they would send me out the maps I needed in about a month for free. I was told they were back-ordered. I got a bran new City Navigator NT for North America in the mail yesterday! Downloaded it fine to my laptop. It looks pretty cool however I have not had time to figure out how it works completely. But call them and get yours too!

city navigator

hi i was wonderign what the city nav is for ?

do you use it on the pc to make routes and upload them to the gps ?

.

Unless your unit supports stored routes (and the ones you have listed unfortunately don't), then you can't load routes from MapSource to your GPS unit.

You can use MapSource to manage your Favorites (create them and send them back and forth between your unit and your computer), to create and preview routes, and create Custom POI files.
