I have a garmin c530 and would like to know how the traffic reciever works. The subscription ran out, I had a free trial. When I plug up the reciever it show show the car symbol on the unit..but it won't let me select it. On the otherhand, the reciever looks like it is still working though..the light on the reciever flashes. Am I still getting a signal, although my subscription ran out and it won't let me select the traffic icon on the unit?
Goto Garmin.com
Go to Garmin.com to update subscription.

That wasn't my question....
I wan't to know if I'm possibly still recieving free coverage...
not for certain
The data is still broadcast and the cable may still receive the signal. But because the GPS says that you no longer have a valid subscription it will either ignore the data or it tells your cable not to send (hence the flashing light).
I'm not certain of your question, but you do not need to get a new cable if that is what you are worried about. If you purchase a traffic plan, then have the serial number on the cable handy as that is what is needed to unlock the service.

Mine did that too...
...when the subscription ran out. It gave a daily countdown to expiration for one week then quit and started flashing. I assume the flashing light is to indicate just that. Upon renewal of subscription, it immediately continued normal operation.
