how often do u download redlight cameras?

Though I download the redlight cameras maybe once every 1-2 weeks, I'm kinda lazy when it comes to uploading to GPS. Probably update once every 2-4 weeks.

Red Light Cameras -

I download them about twice a month. I try to check to see if there are changes for my state - unless I'm going to travel somewhere then that state too - before I download. No changes - no downloads.

Red Light Camera updates

I don't know about other areas but in the Dallas area a lot of the red light cameras in the database are planned and not installed yet so it looks like the database is ahead of reality.

How often do u download redlight cameras?

I check the site daily for updates and download it if the file has been updated. I transfer to my GPS weekly (usually on Friday).

Advise Miss POI

Miss POI advised she wanted to remove all "announced-but-not-installed" lights from the list. If you know of some that were missed, you might want to send them to her. Reporting the code number to her works best.

So What's the Point

I couldn't be bothered downloading where a red light camera is. If you don't run red lights it doesn't matter. Now if you do run red lights.... PLEASE STOP!!! The hazards far out weigh the need to be passed an intersection. Our city has only one right now but planning three more and I couldn't care less. These things pay for themselves and far better to get money from someone risking a life than from the rest of us. I'm not saying I haven't run a red light in my day, but to make it a habit because I know where they are seems senseless.

once

I downloaded once about a year ago. I suppose I should do it again.

Value of Redlight Camera POI

I think you may be missing the most important function of the redlight camera POI's. When drivers know see a redlight camera sign they often slow down unexpectedly, or when they get a yellow light slam on their brakes when they should proceed through. Being forewarned that somebody in front of you might panic can save you a lot of misery.

Speed traps or Red Lights,

Speed traps or Red Lights, doesn't matter...the point is, the more aware of your surrounding you are, the safer you can be.

I only download the RL files when I travel, since we don't have them here.

Monthly

I download them about once a month. They don't change much around here, but if I am traveling, I like them.

I've downloaded them twice since I became a member about 3 months ago.

Don't have to wait

There is another option to download the 'Red Light Camera' POI file ... just give the ole 'Factory' a donation. Some members donate this minimal amount even if they already qualify for the free download; and most all feel they have received more than their money's worth!

Camera download rate

I probably download once a month, and install it to my gps every other month. (In other words, I've only updated once since joining POI Factory.)

As others mentioned, this is done to help me be aware of my surroundings. I don't do this to help me plan running redlights for the day! If I do run a light, it is inadvertent: I mis-judged either my speed or the timing of the light. That happens about once every other month. In those cases it is just "barely red," but red nonetheless. My bad.

Most intersections don't have the cameras! I frequently am able to easily stop, while a driver behind me in an adjacent lane rolls on through amber>red.

Not the reason

I don't download this file to enable me to better run redlights. I download it to let me know where one is so that I don't get caught by a faster-than-normal yellow light.

It also contains a list of speed camera locations. It is always good to know where these are.

And, to answer the question, Weekly.

not as much as I should

i don't download as often as I should, but then again, I don't post a lot on here, I read all the time, but I'm just not much of a talker, so I'm thinking about just doing the donation thing, I'm sure the money helps the site and its easier on me =)

So whats your point?

Well let me say this then, LOL, Be sure not to travel outside your own realm then. And be sure to do the exact speed limit as well. And when you say us be sure you are actually speaking for the rest of us.

To everyone else, I will update my state once a month and others as needed.

A warning or a bliss

I thought long on your statements and seems I don't make sense of some of them. Like why would you be afraid of the one in front of you panicking if you keep your distance? Or why should I stop if I'm half way in the intersection?

I agree though that a lot of people run red lights and these are probably the ones, that desperately need the red-light camera alerts. The warnings are useful, but not essential. But this POIs play different role for different kind of drivers -- for the ones, who obey the rules, they are just a warning, for the ones, who break the rules -- they are a bliss when they want to run a red-light and the "funny talker" warns them that can not, because this time they will get into trouble.
