Battery Life

I have seen many people have problems with the internal batteries on Garmin units after they fully discharge. Does anyone know if the units will work at all if the battery doesn't hold a charge anymore? Anyone have experience with this out there?

I am not talking from

I am not talking from experience, but I can almost bet that it would work fine with direct power, vs battery.

Re: Battery Life

I would be absolutely amazed if Garmin's units don't monitor the battery voltage to know when to shut the system off in order to prevent an over discharge of the battery. If for no other reason I'm sure they would do this to prevent an under voltage situation from occurring in their system.

However, If a battery just didn't work anymore. I'm quite sure the system will run fine from an external power source.

If you want a definite answer I would contact their support (Which is fantastic BTW) and see what they say.

re: battery life

My son ran the battery to 0 on my spare garmin a c320, when he plugged it in to the cigar lighter, with car on, it would not turn on. I had plug it into the usb port on the computer and it charged the c320. Then plugged it in to the car and it worked.

re: battery life

Tiffany,
Do you know if you are able to charge it in the car and not just the usb?

The battery on my nuvi350

The battery on my nuvi350 has gone completely dead and has come on and worked fine when using the vehicle adapter. May be a difference in the nuvi and c models.
