POI's to SD Card

i recently purchased a new garmin nuvi 680. can the POI files from this site be loaded onto the removable SD card instead of internal GPS memory?

.

Yes. You can select the SD card as the destination when you run POI Loader.

SD Card

POI's take up very little space therefore a budget SD card of smaller size will do.

POIs on the SD

Yeah, but when you load your POIs on the SD card - on the Zumo, at least, the device copies them to main memory and then you have two copies, right MM?

Yeah, it doesn't work on the Zumo because the Zumo firmware doesn't have the "skip this file" option.

But it seems to be available on the other models. I probably would put mine on the unit anyway because there's still lots of space there.

I don't know..

why one wouldn't just put them on the unit anyway. My 260 has more room than I will ever use.

Perhaps they travel and would prefer to keep things they don't use often off of their unit.

Faster on the 680 device

I have found that the POI's work better loaded on the device and my MP3's and Audio Books work of my 4GB Sd card....

What do you mean

They hit when they should and search is faster

thats how I think they work better

You should have been asked whether to copy it to the GPS or not.

Yeah, but on the Zumo you always will get that prompt and there's no way (currently) to get rid of it.

So, technically, you don't HAVE to let it copy them to the unit, but you're still stuck with the prompt which is annoying. So, for Zumo users, the advice is to keep them just on the unit.

Unit lock up

That's what I thought until whatever POI I loaded on my Nüvi 350 locked up the unit. I had to send it back to Garmin twice.

I've since started loading POI files on the SD card, so that if it ever locks up again, I can try removing the SD card.

Crossing my fingers that 1) it won't lock up again with the latest software updates, and 2) removing the SD card would do the trick if it did.
