POI Loader Problems

First question is re Motorcycle Moma's instructions for storing POI's on SD card. In no fewer than 5 seperate posts, she has said that if you choose the SD card as the target drive for POI Loader, when the unit boots and asks whether you want to copy to the Nuvi, you should check to box to not ask again and then say yes. If I do that on my 660, it does exactly what I would have expected without her instructions -- it copies the file to the Nuvi which is what I didn't want it to do. Am I misunderstanding the instructions?

Second question concerns the use of the new Macintosh version of the POI Loader software (2.0.1); I'm given no options to load files manually; I can choose only the target drive and the source folder -- the rest is fully automatic. Then, when I look on the Nuvi, the file is listed twice under Custom POI's. Has anyone else used it with success? Luckily after multiple attempts, I decided to try it on my PC and it worked as described there.

As a new member, I would be remiss if I didn't mention how knowledgeable people are on this site and maybe more importantly, how nice to each other. Much more civility than another site I frequent. Thanks for both.

Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.

I'm surprised

I'm surprised that you are having problems with POI Loader v2.0.1 for Mac. I have had good success using it on 4 different types of Garmin GPSr units and had success in both manual & automatic modes.
One thing I did notice in the earlier beta version was that I had to have the latest firmware/software version loaded onto the unit. I updated using the latest version of WebUpdater at the time .
Good Luck

On the models that supports this (and unfortunately the Zumo doesn't so I can't test it), what is supposed to happen when you get prompted if you want to import the data, if you respond "Yes" to the first prompt, you should get a prompt to be able to "Skip this file" which should result in the POIs not being copied to the unit and you not getting prompted again.

A few things to check.

Did the file actually get copied to the unit? Look to see if you have 1) duplicate POI and/or 2) duplicate POI.GPI files (one on the card and one on the unit).

Duplicates can occur in one of two ways. 1) You imported the POIs to your unit and they are still on the card or 2) you choose the unit drive one time and the SD card another time when loading.

Either way. Delete the POI.GPI file that you don't want.

Welcome to the site. It's definitely one of the best places on the internet.

Mac POI Loader

As an aside, note that there are differences in the output of the Mac version of POI Loader, compared with the current PC version. These become more pronounced, the more complex the input to it. (They may not be noticeable with csv input, but definitely are when using gpx files).
