Quick mute = lock screen

I know this may seem horribly obvious to some of you, but I discovered a quick way to mute my Nuvi 200...locking the screen!

So, if your chosen navigator is reading things aloud to you, just slide the power switch over to lock and it'll shut him/up! Of course, the screen is now locked, but for a quick mute it's easier than going into the settings menu.

It would be the same amount of pressing buttons to just mute it. Not sure if i am missing something or not

Not on a Nuvi 200. If you're viewing the map screen and want to mute and then return to the map screen, you have to press:
1) Menu
2) Volume icon
3) Mute Toggle
4) Menu (or is it 'Done'? whatever)
5) View Map

as opposed to:
1) Slide power button to the right

Of course, the screen is locked, so it's not as "good" as going to the sound settings, but it certainly is faster.

Great tip!

I didn't know that and is a very useful one. There are times would I would love to mute the unit for a short time and that trick is MUCH easier than going through the menus.

Are you sure this doesn't work?

The Nuvi 350 can do that in less clicks. Try this on the 200, it might work the same way:
1) Tap power button
2) Mute
3) Done

How do you...

... tap the power button??? It's a sliding switch on the 2xx series... tapping it is about as useful as tapping anywhere else on the unit. rolleyes

Slide the switch right and you lock the screen, slide it left and you turn off the unit.
