Parameter is incorrect

I have a Nuvi 650 which was sent as a replacement from Garmin for a Nuvi 650 which would not acquire satellites. I have tried to download additional vehicles through webupdater and tried to download files using poi loader and I get the same error message, "parameter is incorrect." I have tried to download the files using windows xp and vista with no luck. I never had this problem with my first Nuvi 650 which Garmin replaced. Has anyone ever heard of this?

Are you using a .gpx file?

The only time I got that error message was when I tried to load a .gpx file. I never investigaed why because the .csv files worked just fine.

Should close 2 Windows Explorer windows

I have seen errors if I keep open the 2 new Windows Explorer windows that get launched as the 2 USB drives are detected. Once I close them then run POI Loader, usually loads POI just fine. I keep a small 16MB SD chip (useless chip that came w/my digital camera) in my nuvi660 just to get rid of another error message. Hope this helps.

No luck

Thanks for the info. I had my other windows closed with the same result. I also reinstalled poi loader and webupdater with no luck. I am also getting the message "there is a problem with garmin application."

On a whim I tried to set my Nuvi to the factory defaults using the restore button and I get a message "enabling bluetooth" which the 650 is not supposed to have.

Problem fixed

I called Garmin this morning and a software tech (wish I could remember his name) stayed on the phone with me for approx. 40 minutes. I gave him permission to access my computer and he deleted several files within my nuvi. He then reloaded the latest software version and after several attempts I was able to download files through poi loader and webupdater. Neither one of us is exactly sure what did the trick but it is working now.

Parameter is incorrect, again.

My problem with webupdater and poi-loader has returned. I tried to load files and once again getting the error "parameter is incorrect." I called Garmin support again and this software tech seems to think it is a registery problem. He told me it could be a corrupt poi file which was downloaded from this website. I don't believe that is the case since no one else seems to be having this problem. He gave me several things to try but he does not believe it is a problem with my nuvi. I never had this problem with my first nuvi which my current nuvi replaced. I have had this problem with two different computers, one running windows xp and one running windows vista. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

POI file

It seems you are not following the right procedure. If you are and doesn't work try another and different POI file. If it work , the other file was not correct and dont use that one. Also make sure you dont run any anti-virus during the POI LOADER process. Close any other program running during the process. it might help.

I certified that your 650 is working normally.

Good luck

Reduce the poi file to 1 line

One other thought would be to make a copy of the poi file & delete all lines except 1 in the copy. Be sure you only upload that file w/one record. If it still fails, may want to open it up in notepad (or another plain-text program) & copy/paste the line in a post here.

Working correctly

Thanks for the suggestions. I deleted all my poi files on my computer and gps, deleted poi-loader and web updater and reinstalled without running any internet security activated. I'm not sure what did the trick but I am not having any problems downloading any files, either from webupdater or poi-loader and has been working for days.
