Garmin Nuvi 350 maps update question

Just got a Garmin Nuvi 350 and have a question on map updates on these. How does Garmin do the map updates. Mine has v7 maps loaded. I put the serial number into the garmin web site and it says mine is elgible for a free upgrade to 2008 v8 maps. Does garmin allow you to get free updates for 1 year or something? Or are you allowed 1 update? If they limit the number of updates, I was just wondering if I should get the update now or wait and get a newer update later.

You should get the update now. This is the latest version that just came out last month. Another won't be available until next year. If you wait, you will probably NOT get a free update at all. Use the search box above to see all the discussion about the newest map and difficulty folks have had getting this one...

Just checking because the 2008 maps are actually v9. I don't think the Nuvi's were even around for v7.

Garmin Map Updates
My understanding is that there is no set policy regarding free updates for 1-year or anything like that.
Garmin set a sale date and timeframe in which maps can be updated for free. Meaning units purchased after May'07 are eligible for the free upgrade. I believe this is a limited time offer so if you wait too long then you may be out of luck.
Garmin is not clear or explicit regarding the policy. If someone can refer to specific information that would be most appreciated.

I waited until I knew they were out and then registered. All the form wanted was my serial, and it told me I was eligible for a free upgrade. I had purposely put off registering since I knew the updates were around the corner. Just got the disc this morning.
