Apple today (10/28) released iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1

Apple today released iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1, the first major updates to the iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 updates that came out in September. iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1 come six weeks after the release of ‌iOS 18‌ and ‌iPadOS 18‌.

18.1

I'm sure there are some bug and security fixes, as usual, which most users will want, but the main point of this 18.1 update seems to be to finally enable a few early AI features. But the AI features will only work anyway on a few of the newest iPhones and iPads (and even on those models, are not enabled by default). I saw one columnist, and he's an Apple fan, reviewing the new AI features in 18.1 with a big yawn.

Downloaded

Haven’t seen any real changes. I guess most of the changes are for the 15’s and 16’s.

.

Yeah my previously bug reported here turned out to be user error. Go figure. To quote Emily Latella: "Never mind!"

The only saving grace is that I found my mistake before I reported it to Apple.

iOS Update

Updated 3 days ago on my iPad Air 4. Ever since downloading and installing 18.1 email is sooo slow to download and open. Quite a few others stating the same on various websites. I think alot of the new features are cool and useful, just this one issue is annoying. I've tried several of the posted fixes that have worked for others but still no joy.

All good

Just works

A common fix during beta testing was to force close and reopen the mail app. But some people found it best to force close, power down the device, restart the device, then reopen the mail app.

Be careful if u have an older iphone....

I have read that upgrading to IOS 18 can substantially decrease the performance and functionality of older phones. I have a 12 mini and am avoiding the update until I get a newer iPhone.

What you say is controversial…
