got a fancy whole house heat pump
IF, and it doesn't happen often, the outside coils ice up it shuts down for a few minuts, and runs as an aircon to heat up the coil and melt off the ice, 20 minutes at the most,
air doesn't flow inside so the basement where the unit is may drop 5 degrees, the house may drop half a degree, then the coil fan blows the water out of the coils and it fires up again,cool

It is possible to override the auto defrost by changing the temperature on the thermostat, the unit thinks "oh-oh urgent"
not a good idea, but possible

so this morning minus 20C(-4F) outside, 8c(46F) inside and getting colder
"Grampy can you come over" and "only did it a few times, maybe three" but the thermostat says 94F
outside coil box is 4 feet by 3 feet by 3 feet of solid ice, with a fan on top
the good news is you can rent a 59000BTU construction heater, diesel fired, plugin
better news: a 59000BTU construction heater, diesel fired, plugin, will melt 4 feet by 3 feet by 3 feet of solid ice, with a fan on top, at minus 20C, in an hour
its 62 and rising inside
best news, the thermostat has a new lockbox on it, and only dad and grampy have a key
