Win 11 Upgrade

Every 4th or 5th time I boot my Win 10 desktop, I get a full screen message apparently from Microsoft. It includes an option to upgrade to Win 11.

There is a lot of information on the net about Win 11 upgrades and how to do it but I see no mention of this popup screen I'm getting.

Has anyone else seen this? Is it legitimate or a scam? More importantly, has anyone tried this upgrade?

Windows 11

I have been using it since 10-6-21 and very happy with the new Windows 11. Seems to load pages a little faster then Windows 10 and the learning curve for the new system is minimum. My all in one HP printer had no problems with connecting.

Windows Update

If you want to be sure, go to the settings, and click on "Update & Security"

If it is available for your computer, it will show there.

Windows 11 update popup.

About a week ago, I got some kind of popup that my computer was ready for Windows 11. I was in the middle of something and didn't want to deal with it. I thought I clicked the "X" to close the popup, but I must have clicked on the wrong thing. The next thing I knew, I got a message that Windows 11 was downloading, then a little while later that it was time to reboot to complete the update.

It wasn't what I wanted, but rather than try to figure out how to reverse it, I decided to just let it go. So far everything is working OK

Not Happy

I have been running it for a month and a half. The only complaint i have is my epson et-4750 keeps having printer spool issues. This is a known issue and microsoft acknowledges it and says its working on it. Frustrating for sure. Not sure why it doesn't work since the print spooler never stopped on win7 or win10. Don't fix it if it ain't broken? Luckily if i try to start the scanner app, and it fails i know to start the Epson Printer Connection Checker app and it fixes it. Otherwise it will print out s diagnostic page and waste more paper...lol

A couple of months ago I received one pop-up notice that Win 11 was ready for download. I merely clicked out of the message and never got another one. Whenever I go to to Settings/Update & Security an unobtrusive message is merely sitting there reminding me that Win 11 is available. I don't know if it's germane or not, but I'm on an HP laptop.

I’ve had one notification of Win 11 but

As I’ve said I’ve had one notification but I keep my Win 10 set to pause updates, usually for the full 35 days. To check that setting go to Windows update, scroll down a bit and you’ll see the wording about pausing updates. Click that repeatedly and you’ll see at the top that “Windows updates are paused until…”

Notifications

I've been using my upgraded Windows 11 for quite a while now and like it. Right after the installation, I checked my wireless printing to a Conon printer and it worked fine. Whew.

One thing that I've noticed but haven't quantitated yet is that Windows programs and apps now are behaving a lot like Android apps and that I find it often necessary after a program installation or update to go to the program's settings and turn off notifications that I'll never want to see.

Windows 11 clean install

For anyone who upgraded to Windows 11 already, a clean install of Windows 11 will now be needed. Does Microsoft have the iso file avaiable for download? I just read they do not.
