Keeping The Windmill Alive – December, 2021

We had the old cell phone plan where there was an 8 gb plan, and 3 phones sharing the plan. We'd use 4 gb per month. One phone is my mom's.

I had a discount through work of 22% (this is a discussion in itself it got structured so that it only applies to line items of $40+), and then, I was given an additional $6/mo off per line or $18/mo.

blah blah blah you're asking well what was the monthly? It was $115 per month including all taxes and fees.

Since the $18/mo expires on 1/13/22, I called.

I waited 50 minutes on hold (Sunday), reached a person, and spent 70 minutes on the phone lol

When we got through we switched to the entry level unlimited plan which includes Canada and Mexico(this is $5/day before), then $5 off cable and $5 off cell, had to switch to autopay with checking (had credit card).

net net is new plan is $119 or $4/mo more. But the $115 was in fact going away--$4/mo more than $115. With the $5/mo discount, it's actually $1/mo less. Then the cable will also be $5/mo less. For some reason I got a gift card for $3 hahahahahaha I'll take it, amazon. I think it might be monthly as it was in the rewards section.

Then as part of the promo Disney + free 6 mos., Apple Music 6 mos, Discovery 6 mos, and Apple Arcade.

No contract at all.

In reality, the above only illustrates that I was already paying too much--kinda of like if you shopped for auto insurance and found you could save $600/year--that's not savings, it means you were paying too much.

At any rate, which carrier? Verizon. Even though I tend to dread long phone calls like the above, the rep was so pleasant it made it all worthwhile. The end.

p.s. remember I said entry level unlimited--this means they can slow us down when congestion. I tested it and didn't see that to be the case, was getting like 27-50 mbps down at various places near home. The speed tests already cost me 1 gb of data, but it's unlimited...

These constant covid doom and gloom warnings are like being nagged so they get tuned out.

Canadians pay one of the highest rates for cellphones.
Now i live in mexico for the winter and pay a very reasonable 200 peso for 30 days (Cdn $ 15.00, US$ 10.00)
That gives me 3.5 GB of Data, completely FREE calls within Mexico and more than 2,000 free calls to Canada and the USA. For very little extra I can bump up the DATA!
