this doesn't happen all the time (pkg smaller, price decreases)

Went to grab paper towels at Costco and there was a sign, I wish I took a pic, as if to assure customers you are not paying more even though the package is smaller.

So I get home and check, lo and behold the paper towels are now 898.3 sq ft, used to be 1026.

The old package was $16.99, the new, $14.79.

So according to my calculations, the new package just happens to be .57% cheaper per sq. ft.

That's why I'm a Costco fanboy as they have been good actors through the pandemic.

And also only 1/2 stocks that I've ever gotten a special dividend from owning. They do well, their shareholders get over and above for a dividend.

Gas, tires, food, they simply rock. And yes there's a cost to be a member, and that's where they make their money, so the rest of the prices are kept low...

A Costco membership works for me

I agree, Costco is the bomb! But, in about the last twenty-five or so years I get a free Costco membership. My daughter is a Costco pharmacist (also the pharmacy manager at her store) and I get a free family membership.

As there is no cost and no downside, a Costco membership works for me.

bad PR

I rather like Costco too. They did get hit with some bad PR today: https://www.nytimes.com/2021/02/06/opinion/sunday/costco-chi...

IIRC you don't need a subscription for the first few articles in a month.

Costco

I'm a member but the closest store to me is about 90 minutes from where I live. I used to shop there once every month or two when I was up near them anyway, but now rarely go because of the virus. One of the things I miss being able to do. Highly recommended for eyeglasses at a great price BTW.

I am in the same boat. Nearest Costco is about an hour away. My trips to Costco are rare enough that I can't justify the membership cost. I wish they had an option other than full membership for the occasional shopper. I used their guest program once but they make you jump through too many hoops and listen to their 30 minute sales pitch (I think they called it new member orientation or some such thing). I didn't need all that, just wanted to do some shopping while I was there. If they ever build a Costco in my city, I will definitely become a member.

No stake in alternate

No stake in alternate to Costco(which I am a member) is Sam's Online. Membership for a Plus membership is $100. Most items ship free for Plus members! I live a distance from both Costco & Sams so online free shipping at Sams beats Costco for me.
