What privacy?

I have Windows 10 on my laptop and Win10 comes with a calendar. I've just this past week started using the calendar. Well, a couple of days ago I opened it in the morning and found that someone (Microsoft, Google, who knows) had filled in the day of each month that my wife and I will receive our Social Security checks. How in the hell did anyone other than my bank, the Social Security Administration, and my wife and I know that information? Kinda scary.

Agree. Have you gone down

Agree, I'd be angry and upset. Have you gone down the list of Windows 10 privacy settings and turn everything off? After updates, often will see some turned back on.

Good luck!

Birth date.

Anyone (or any program) that knows your birth date can tell you when you will get your social security payments. SS pays on the 2nd 3rd or 4th Wednesday of the month based on the day of the month that your birth date falls on
1 - 10 pays on 2nd Wednesday of month
11 - 20 pays on 3rd Wednesday of month
21 - 31 pays on 4th Wednesday of month

Sounds like you have accounts linked, if so..any calendar, email, contacts and the like will migrate across platforms.
You very likely had one date listed on say a Google calendar for instance and Google's algorithms filled in the blanks ( which they do ) and filled in that date each month..then if it's linked with MS calendar it will automatically sync on there as well.
Agreed, it's scary as hell and very intrusive..one reason I keep a paper calendar and all of my contacts on a funny thing called a notepad.

Oh, and there ain't no privacy online period..a safe computer is one disconnected from the internet.

That's probably it

alandb, that's probably the answer. I didn't know about the very complex formula that SS uses to decide who gets what when. I'm sure my birth date is all over the internet. Thanks for the information.

Following month

I might add of the "following month". But there is no magic here.

They see all

with everything electronic, they know everything about us.

Do you use Gmail?

If you use Gmail, Google Calendar by default, will pull in info from your emails. I've noticed hotel reservations automatically pulled into Google Calendar. Those options can be turned off.

You know you can pick any day/month/year, right? I use fake d.o.b and hide it from all my Facebook friends too. You don't sound like you know Facebook features but you can comment about them.

Ignorance is bliss. Windows

Ignorance is bliss. Windows 10 snoops on you more than you know. That's why it's free, they don't market their product any more, they market you.

you might give false dates

but how many people think about it ? what I was stating was that a lot of people on face book who don't think about what they post ! and there are people who scan face book for information ! remember its a social network where people interact with each other you just have to be carful about what information you post a lot of people just know how to click on an icon and start posting and don't know what they can and cant hide or who can see what ! and I do know about face book features. I was just stating how dumb people can be posting information that they shouldn't !

bless your little heart.

While the upgrade from Windows 7 was free on my older systems, I distinctly remember paying for the OS on the new Windows 10 machine I built most recently.
