Went out this morning to drain the secondary water lines, but the neighbor has to water for an hour on each station so will have to wait until 11:00 to get started. Only 28 this morning

No global warming here! More cool temps. The goofy folks on TV keep trying to tell us every time we have a warm day it is "global warming" and every day we have a cool day it is "climate change." Guess we should buy lottery tickets from them.

SnowBlower.

My snowblower is 19 years old. It has never had any repair or maintenance other than oil changes, shear bolts, skid shoes and scraper bar, but still worked pretty well last winter. It is a MTD brand 2 stage 11 horse B&S. I think the engine and basic snow throwing system is sound, but I am somewhat worried that the gearbox may give out. The gearbox is sealed so you can't easily check gear wear or lubricant. I hope it hangs on for another winter as I am getting too old to shovel.

Gears and Schnapps

Had a 25 year old Toro that didn't owe me a dime,but things started going on it one after another and it was time for a shiny new one. Picked up a Poulan Pro from Costco last year and am incredibly happy with it..AND it starts!.. which after 25 years with the aforementioned Toro is always welcome when it's snowing and -40c!.. Sealed gear boxes are great for being maintenance free but I'm one to want to tinker and fix/maintain things..I think you can still dismantle them to relube..on some anyways...lubriplate is the best gear lube around for snowblower auger gears I find, it's a white grease with a huge temperature range.
And now for the Schnapps in Hot chocolate!.. agreed!..a damn fine drink!...after a half dozen of these..I won't care about the snow!! grin

Fire, Still...

Prayers to the victims of the numerous fires in Northern CA and their families and loved ones. Hopefully their burdens are not to great to bear.

Thank you to the countless fire fighters, ancillary personnel, and volunteers who are helping to save lives, properties, pets, and the morale of all concerned.
