I'm going to be using DOS V6.2.2. to upgrade a scope in a week or so...

To upgrade firmware in a scope... So Option Board will become active.
As it turns out, NVRAM Chip won't erase or reload firmware, so after a new NVRAM chip arrives:
Save engineering files from scope to DOS.
Power down, removing 'Main Board' from scope....
Un-soldering a NVRAM chip from Main Board..
Soldering in an IC Socket...
Installing new NVRAM Chip in socket....

Then I Boot a Server to DOS V6.2.2 and upgrade firmware and copy engineering files back to scope from DOS...

And if that isn't enough.... I have to put in date firmware was updated.... I'm considering loading in 12/31/99 Because I don't know if scope knows about Y2K !!!!!

Main board has been removed

NVRAM Chip from U.K. and Machined pin IC Socket has arrived.... Main board has been removed from scope, and is prepared for the un-soldering of the 28 pin NVRAM.... Once Vacuum Solder Station arrives......
Once Machine pin socket is installed, will put old chip back in, and board will be re-installed to verify it all still works...
Then "Out with the Old--In with the new" NVRAM chip and programming will begin!

y2K

the overrun falls in December 2079
The date routine was ( and still is ) programmed with a start date 1-1-1980 and two digits were assigned to be added or subtracted to/from 1980 to give the year
There was never going to be a y2K crash

told no Y2K issues... My

told no Y2K issues... Ok, they should know.... but a nagging question remains: since there is only a 2 number year code being entered.... how will 10/06/17 be interpreted? (assuming codes are entered on October 6, 2017)?

When Vacuum Solder Station

When Vacuum Solder Station didn't arrive... contacted seller...
Though he took money, he shipped all available stock to people other than me....
He offered to ship 2 units: One vacuum, One Solder, in place of the unit I ordered that had both.....
I agreed last PM....
Tracking number indicates it left Tempe, AZ last PM....

Ongoing.......

I wasn't certain.... Thanks

I wasn't certain.... Thanks for that confirmation..... 10/15/17 it is, then!!! smile!
Things have been 'delayed' still again....
The seller of the vacuum solder station shipped all replacements he had and then realized he didn't fill my order (after taking payment)....

He's shipping 2 (OTHER) separate items (I have a tracking number this time!! Something is on it's way to me!)

You can't make this stuff up!

So I started this project in Mid August... and I said I'd be doing it in a week or so?

I'm retired.... At least I'm not in a time crunch.... It's not like when I was working.....
"What??? It's being delayed another week or two?? We need that thing repaired YESTERDAY!!!"
Actually, I don't miss that at all!! smile!

There is a few updates on this.... but it is getting so involved, I'm going to point at the other site where it's posted!!
Further updates will appear at this other site...

online parts

I ran into something similar with a 128 gig usb 3.0 stick, I ordered the part from Newegg and it was a corsair part it took about a week to arrive and didn't work and had to call them for a number to return the part. sent the part back and they sent me a new one it didn't work had to call for another return number after about two months I got one that seemed to work called corsair the said I needed a firmware update (for a new part)? so I downloaded the update and installed it ! it still didn't work, so I then formatted it and changed the file system and now I can finally use it ! I hate calling some of these support outfits when the people answering them are Indian or Pakistani and have a really bad ascent and you cant understand them and they get upset when you ask to talk to some one that talks English .
