Micro USB Cables

I am looking for some additional micro USB cables. Like many people, I have a number of them, but some are not great quality. I have noticed that some are available now with either fabric or steel covering.

I would be interested in hearing from others what cables are good and who has them at a reasonable price.

Also, what is the latest on them being truly universal. I have a Motorola Droid Turbo II phone and not all micro USB cables work with it.

Monoprice has decent options

The Monoprice cables are a good value and have lifetime warranty but they aren't very fancy.

Yup, Monoprice.

Monoprice is my primary source for all my cable needs. Decent price and superb proudcts.

Micro USB

Ebay has quite a few personally i wish they would scrap micro and use Mini USB it is a much stronger connector

not sure if this question includes

OTG cables, which is the type of cable used to connect a flash drive to a tablet or phone. For this, I bought a $3.99 made by startech.com

It was the cheapest I could find sold by that big etailer starting with an a and ending with a n, the world's biggest. It actually was decent quality so why spend more.....

Fast charge

Look for the key phrase "Fast Charging" or similar. Also may say compatible with Qualcomm 2 or 3. This will mean the power wires are heavy enough to carry 2.4 amp without a large voltage drop. Voltage drop is why old cables designed for 500 ma don't work with many modern devices.

That is an excellent reply! Thank you for posting that.

Metal Covered

I just got one of the metal covered ones at Wal-Mart. I really like it.

Going to magnetic micro USB

I am switching over to the magnetic micro-usb to keep from tearing up the delicate connector. There are at least two kinds, both are now connection direction insensitive (you can't get it wrong), but so far the ones with double terminals is preferred as the other protrudes too far and is uncomfortable on the hand.

More will be published as I know more.

I don't know about the strength difference, but I much prefer the mini USB over the micro USB connector. There is no doubt about about the proper orientation with the mini USB.

I wish they would scrap both of these and go with USB-C.

Another vote for monoprice.

Another vote for monoprice. Good value. I like the braided ones though.

I like mini over micro too but even if they went with USB-C, it's still not a "locking" connector like Ethernet RJ-45 for example. Even thunderbolt cables on the Mac fall out all the time. They need a USB-C that has a locking tab at some point IMO.

USB C

My current phone has usb C connector. I think it's great. Easy to plug in. No up or down. Can be plugged in either way. Stays in securely. From what I have read it will eventually replace the A and all versions of the B connector. Then you won't have to look at which end of the cable to plug in. I bought a set of magnetic connector cables and tried them out. Really did not like them and they are laying in a drawer not be used anymore.

Droid Turbo II

I have the same phone as the OP and I have the same issue with some micro USB cables not working worth a darn. They may work on my wife's phone or other devices but not on my phone. Of course I normally charge my phone on a cradle so cables aren't a problem unless I'm traveling or moving data.
