First use of speed alert option with Here maps app

I must have read somewhere (perhaps here) that the Here app has a speed alert option. I tried it with a setting of +6 where the speed limit is up to 50mph and a setting of +8 where the speed limit is above 50mph.

It worked great. The option must be turned on in the settings and it does not work when just looking at the map. "Drive" must be tapped but entering a destination is not necessary.

I'm preparing for a 2,000 mile trip. I've got my wifi-only tablet loaded with the state maps for every state I'll be traveling through and a charger plugged into the car.

The speed warning on the Garmin is nearly useless. I still like the convenience of using a dedicated gps but I'm one step closer to learing how to live without one!

That is a nice feature that members have posted they would like to have on the their GPS. I took this from the help section on Here in case someone is interested.

"Even when I'm not using drive navigation, it would be great if HERE Maps could still warn me if I exceed the speed limit. Can it do that?

Yes, it can. Just make sure the GPS is turned on in your device. HERE Maps will track you on the map as you drive and give you speed limit warnings as you drive.

Simply go to the main menu and select Drive, or tap the green button on the map and select Drive.

In this drive assistance mode, you can see the traffic, speed, speed limits and you can also customize in the Display settings what you would like to see. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and select Display > Tracking.

Your first consideration while using HERE Maps in traffic has to be safety."
