I love the ingenuity the girls used to get around the "you need a permit".
They are now doing a "donations only". Which is legal.
The politicians want their
The politicians want their share. Now that they cannot sell a permit, they will be sending out the Health Inspector, and the kids will probably not be allowed to sell a product until tested by an approved lab.
Yeah, let's put a stop to kids learning about starting a business of any kind.
I never get lost, but I do explore new territory every now and then.

At least once a week we hear or read about some "issue" that to most people is totally ridiculous and lacking of common sense, this is another one.

Free Lemonade
I heard on the ABC news tonight that the girl's family went to the store and stocked up on lemonade mix. It seems they were able to get around the government bottleneck by giving away the lemonade for free, with tips optional.
i think
Someone should start a gofund me site to put a few pennies into these enterprising kids piggy banks.
Of course it's likely, the site would quickly fund up several hrundereds of thousands of dollars over night when all that was needed was a few $$$...
Gezzzz.. Its always feast or famon...
Never argue with a pig. It makes you look foolish and it anoys the hell out of the pig!

If you live on Long Island, you'll hear about it more than once a week.

isn't it
Simply astounding we choose to elect and the alllowcthose elected the ability to employ others that have all this legimimate authority and not a kick of common sense.

Congratulations Tezas Police
Congratulations Texas police. Now it is time to go after those uniform wearing scofflaws, the Girl Scouts.
No Donations
I hope they don't put up a sign with the word donations on it.. Donations imply a cause to donate to.. This cause requires some kind of government tax free charity lic or something, and it has to be posted that they authorized this girl to solicit for them. She may win the battle but she will loose the war, they will get her on something.. The stand being to close to the street, stopped cars blocking the street.. They will think of something.. I can just see this kid required to file a tax form at the end of the year, and if not, they will go after her.. The government always wins.. The only way to win is not to play the game.. If the government wanted you to have lemonade they would supply you with it..
IIRC the news piece said a
IIRC the news piece said a sign for TIPs for the servers was posted, not donations.

Blame elected officials, not the police.
While in some areas of the country Police have gotten a bad rap you can't blame the police if they're simply upholding what the law says.
You seem to be saying the police should decide which laws to uphold based on someone else's opinion?
Blame the Health Department who said there would have to be an inspection of the stand or they're in violation of health codes and the elected officials who made laws which required lemonade stands to get a permit just to be legal.
Don't elect stupid people who make stupid laws and then blame police for upholding them. Quit electing stupid people.
and in almost every case...
People who that city, town or county elected to office designed the law and didn't have the common sense to see the ramifications. It's the same with our nationally elected officials in congress.
And what happens? They still get re-elected!
