How do I turn device on or off if it freezes up or will not power on?

If your nuvi, dezl, LIVE, Camper/RV, or zumo series device freezes up or will not power on, try a soft reset.

To power the device OFF with a soft reset:

Press and hold the power button or hold the power switch in the on position for 8-10 seconds. OK, I know it sounds crazy. You are trying to turn the device off and are holding the button in the "on" position.

To power the device ON with a soft reset:

Press and hold the power button or hold the power switch in the on position for 8-10 seconds. Note: In some cases, the device may even appear to be dead and refuse to power on from external power. This can be corrected by performing the soft reset while the device is connected to a power source with a USB cable, vehicle power cable, or an AC adapter.

The above soft reset steps are applicable to nuvi, dezl, LIVE, or Camper/RV series devices, except as noted below:

nuvi 300 & 600 series:
Press and hold the reset button for 10-15 seconds (the reset button is located under the antenna on the back of the device)

nuvi 500, 800, & 805 series:
Remove and reinsert battery

nuvi 5000 soft reset:
Unplug from power and then reconnect device

zumo 400 & 500 series:
Hold the power button AND the zoom (+) button for 8-10 seconds (or do the following:)

zumo series (except zumo 300 series):

Remove the battery for a few moments
Place the battery back into the zumo
If the device still will not power on, remove the battery from the zumo and plug it into a computer via USB cable
Place the battery back into the zumo
The device will now power on. Because the battery may deplete while the device is locked up, it is ideal to connect the device to power to allow it time to charge.

NOTE: Once a soft reset is successful, you should update the software on the device.
