As anyone have been following the 2014 World cup soccer games? I have been watching since they started the first game.,for those who wonder what those 3 numbers mean before the Country name..
First number how many games they won.
Second number how many game the final score end (even)
Third number how many games the team lost.

Any team who have lost 2 games are out of the World Series

As a today Australia- Spain- Cameron -and England are out of the World Cup.

Don't Play Against Luis Suarez Near Mealtime

Yes, the mad biter is back. Luis Suarez bit another player today, adding to his list This is the third time he has bitten another player in his brilliant, but tainted career.

Considering this is his third time, how does he have any teeth left to bite someone?

World Cup OTA ...

Just in case some of you are like me and don't have cable & ESPN networks.

In my area (SF Bay), the games are being broadcast OTA (Over The Air), but they happen to be with commentary in Spanish. This isn't a language I understand much of - yet. Funny thing, I think I might be picking it up, the more I watch and listen.

Plus you get to hear the "GOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLL" when anyone scores - cool.

2 channel

shock Now they started since last week broadcast those game on ESPN1 and ESPN2 at the same time at noon..how can I watch 2 game when they are starting at the same time? I guess flipping back and forth..

Yes..Following World Cup!

I'm a fan for this sport. I'm glad to see every year is followed by more Americans...Team USA booked its place in the last-16 of the World Cup..let's see!!!

Lots of Interest/Excitement this year!

These games have really caught lots of people's attention this year. I don't recall so much talk about them in past years it was held. It's on TV screens everywhere you go, and I'm amazed at the people (not sports fans) asking who won yesterday. I can't say I'm a huge sports in general or soccer fan in particular type fan, but the exposure on the TV screens does generate some interest. I'm amazed to see how some of those guys seem to almost have wings with some of the moves. Go USA!!!

Go USA!

US team will the in round 8.

Penalty Shoot Outs

I am no fan of these. After the two 15 minute overtime periods I think they should go to sudden death.

Or paper, rock, scissors. grin

What world cup?

What world cup?

Ties

Sorry to be the "downer Debbie" but I don't watch sports when there is a high probability of them ending in a tie --- soccer is boring (to me) who cares!!! I feel so much better now smile

--

.

1. There are no ties in the remaining knockout rounds.

2. The 3.5 billion soccer/futbol fans worldwide would, in all likelihood, disagree with your assessment of "boring" and "who cares".

3. The good news is that you are free to to feel that way.

Cologne

There's a cologne for men called Soccer.

If you wear it you "almost" score...

Proud Of the USMNT

I'm proud of the way the United States men's national soccer team played this year. It was a tough loss to Belgium, but they played well. Tim Howard was fantastic! Go USA!

Germany Vs. Argentina in the Final

After Germany destroyed Brazil 7-1, Argentina played a very conservative "Don't do anything to lose" and eventually won in penalty kicks. Hopefully, the final will be more exciting.

The nay sayers are probably into American Football where you have some guys scramble for 8 seconds and then stop again. If those overgrown apes had to run on the field for 90 minutes they'd probably drop dead.
BTW: Why its even called football is beyond me.

Now, to wait 4 more years

Well finally World cup ended yesterday and Germany is the new Champ. Four years ago the buzz was to watch this event in 3D..on 2014 the trend was 4K or even 8K...what's next?

" Nice to hear about something else for once. "

Agreed!

When does hockey start again?

I enjoyed the World Cup

I enjoyed the World Cup tournament this year. I don't watch soccer much either outside of the World Cup, except occasionally European games, but I saw at least parts of most of the WC games. Some WC games were more boring than others, including the semifinal between Argentina and the Netherlands, but others including the other semifinal and the final were very entertaining.

The thing I like best about World Cup: the nonstop action (in a good game, anyway). It'$ not ruled by the commercial break$. And yeah, you better be in condition to find the heart to be able to play 89-119 minutes in.

What I like least about it: the diving and exaggerated reactions to being fouled, rolling over six times and writhing around on the field until they get up and start playing again like nothing happened. I wish the officials would start enforcing the rule against that with yellow cards. Man up you pansies.

Get rid of this and you eliminate most of the game's "highlights" ......LMAO

I noticed also that most of the "reporting" involves stills and not video clips ... specific reason?

Forget Hockey, when does

Forget Hockey, when does football season start?

I Thought It Was Good World Cup

It was not as dirty as 2010 and had more excitement than 2006.

In the final, both teams were trying to score, instead of just waiting it out and taking their chances on penalty kicks.

Congratulations to Germany on their win and also to Argentina for giving us an exciting finish.

Yellow Card For Diving

dagarmin wrote:

I believe a Brazillian player received a yellow card for diving in their 3rd place game loss to the Dutch.

I agree, it should happen more often.

That was one of the few games I missed entirely.

Maybe diving is something FIFA could make enforceable with yellow cards after the game and after reviewing video replays. That would probably cut down the worst examples in a hurry.

The young Brazilian star Neymar was a particularly egregious offender in my opinion. Of course he finally left the semifinal with a fractured vertebra when he was fouled dirty, but it was hard to take him seriously because he kept trying to draw calls by overacting. Usually it didn't work. I wanted him to live up to his reputation by playing football and not drama queen.

Single minded people often believe that their opinion is fact .... sorry but .... it doesn't work that way!

I'm a poker fan...

but I never understood how it was considered a sport.

From Miriam-Webster's page:

2sport
noun

: a contest or game in which people do certain physical activities according to a specific set of rules and compete against each other

: sports in general

: a physical activity (such as hunting, fishing, running, swimming, etc.) that is done for enjoyment

So from that, golf is legit. Boring, but it qualifies. rolleyes
