Did you know

Hostess also made Drakes, I hope they begin baking Devil Dogs (chocolate cake filled with cream, looks like a small hotdog bun).

I didn't realize the apple pies died with the Twinkie. Any chance they're coming back too?

Mmmm!

Man, just when I thought I was being forced into changing my bad eating habits Twinkies come back from the dead.

Cupcakes and Snowballs

Don't forget their #2 and #3 products, either. I haven't seen any mention if they will be coming back too.

.

What about HoHo's? Are they the same as Devil Dogs?

Bone Dry / Funny Bones

I always thought Devil Dogs were bone dry, even though they had a fair amount of creme filling. The cake part was hideous IMO.

Funny Bones were/are like chocolate covered Twinkies with peanut butter filling.

Ho Hos are like Yodels and Swiss Cake rolls.

Oh Yeah!

Viva la Twinkies!

Re: Devil Dog Dry? So true! They were like eating a mouthful of DUST! I swear they were STILL dry even after an extended dunk in Milk. I say don't bring them back...let em rest!

Hoping for Sno Balls

I'm hoping Sno Balls make a come back eventually. I don't care so much for Twinkies, among others.

I too miss the pies.

Nah, as your link shows HoHo's are like a small chocolate covered yule log, also very tasty. I've provided a like to the Drakes Wiki. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devil_dogs#Popular_Products
Others state devil dogs are dry, I prefer the un-chocolate coated cakes.

Twinkies

I rushed out and bought a box of Twinkies and Ding Dongs when I heard Hostess was closing. I had not eaten a Twinkie in 20 years. I only ate a couple of each just for nostalgia.
I recently had houseguests. I placed one of each on their pillows for a bedtime snack. What a great surprise said they.

With my eye, I spy...

An honest to goodness Hostess apple pie! I saw that in the deli I get breakfast from in the morning. It was the only one, and it was kind of smushed...so I left it. If I find it's unsmushed twin brother any time, I'm buying it!

I had one, finally

That lovely Hostess apple pie. I remember them from not too long ago. My deli had a case of 12 sitting there smiling at me. "Eat me!" They were yelling. Selfishly I grabbed one along with my morning sandwich. I was taken aback when it came to $1.75. I used to buy them at the discount outlet at 3 or 5 for a buck! "Eat me Bobby!" I kowtowed, bought it and went about my work day. At 10 AM it started SCREAMING at me, so I peeled back the wrapper. It looked the same, although the glaze was a bit different. It was less transparent, more of a translucent white. I spent about a half second noticing that difference and took a big old bite. Holy sweetness BatMan! My fillings were ringing! The thing was like licking a sugar cube (if you're old enough to remember those). After apples, the next 3 ingredients were some form of sugar. Because I bought this thing and I'm pretty frugal when it comes to me, I forced the rest down. I'm not going back down that road again. I'll let my memories remind me of how things used to be. They do a much better job of satisfying me anyway...and they're free! Bye-bye apple pie. No Chevy at the levee though. grin

P.S. They're not kidding on the label: "The Sweetest Comeback"!

Similar experience

I bought two apple & 2 cherry pies. I noticed on my Walmart receipt they were a buck each. I ate one apple & gave away the two cherry pies. The last one I'm saving for something.

Sorry to hear that, I don't fancy overly sweet treats myself.

mrgreen Sink your teeth into it. Heck yea they are sweet. A long long time ago I use to eat one about every day with lunch or whenever I could get my hands on one. The icing was always a thick pasty white, all sugar. Back then I could burn off all that sugar in no time. I'm sure I can still handle it, I just won't be burning the sugar off so fast. razz
