how to update maps on lifetime map GPS?

I purchaged my Garmin about 3-4 years ago but didn't register the device. Do I still eligible for Lifetime maps update or I screw up with having free updates?

Easiest way
The easiest way to find out is to hook it up to your computer and try by my feeling is that is won't work. Garmin has posted that if you don't update the maps every two (2) years, they assume the device is no longer in use and thus has assume that device is at the end of it's life.
If that is the case, contacting Garmin might work.

I don't know if you can still get liftime maps for your unit or not, but do you really want to sink 80 or 90 bucks on a 3-4 year old piece of technology?
