Fancy Clocks

I bought me one of them fancy dancy alarm clocks for my wife and I that automatically resets the clock in case of a power failure, and, as luck would have it, automatically sets the time forward and backward on time change... Ain't that neat?

The only problem is that we bought it the year that congress changed the law.. so now our clock sets the time a few weeks early... every fall and winter...

See how that works out!!! Now.. where is my GPS... Don't have to set the time on that ...

Sounds like your clock needs a firmware update ... you might try contacting the manufacturer to see if they will replace the logic chip.

I have a Casio Waveceptor "atomic" watch that I really like. It is solar powered, so never needs to have the battery replaced. It also synchronizes the time once a day from radio signals so is always accurate within 1 second. When the gov't changed the DST rules a couple of years ago, the Casio made the correction with no intervention on my part.

We have 2 "atomic Clocks" in our house. One sets itself correctly every spring and fall, even after Congress started moving the daylight savings day around.

But the kitchen wall clock must have a date component it goes by. Every spring and fall, it changes time on the "old" date. Drives us nuts! But we like the looks of the clock, so we keep it. Maybe we could just buy a replacement clock motor/receiver?!? confused

I have the same "problem" with the VCR (yes, we still have a VCR!). We can set it up so that the time doesn't automatically change, however.

But you do have to set what timezone you're in. I think my GPSr is old enough that Indiana is in its own "timezone" because of its lack of DST.

I have the same problem. I have 2 atomic clocks and a VCR with different times. I have to mentally add or subtract an hour when trying to figure out what time it is. I haven't been able to figure out how to fix the discrepancies so I just live with it. Next round, I will buy a regular clock and change it myself. Seems a lot easier.

Try

I have a VCR that changed over to standard time last weekend. I found that in the menu system there is a setting called DST, turning it from ON to OFF will stop it from changing the time automatically on the old dates.

I have a handful of devices that use the WWVB broadcast . It's interesting to note that the time code includes not only a DST flag, but fields to warn when it's approaching. This allows a few days of advance notice so that devices can change at the correct time even if it's not when they're resynchronizing.

For those devices that change at the old time (including my weather station), the manufacturer had to intentionally include a hard-coded DST table instead of interpreting that portion of the broadcast code.

yes

I love in North Carolina. Wish the time didnt change at all. Completely blows the evenings after work, because it gets dark so early. I am noit personally concerned about it. I am retard, so every day is a Saturday to me. But, I know how I used to feel after working all day, then ti getting dark outside os soon after arriving at home.

Easy to remember...

There’s an old saying, that will help in remembering which way to adjust your clock, during daylight saving time, and that is:

“Spring“ ahead, “Fall“ behind.

No DST

jason1466 wrote:

Arizona, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, U.S. Virgin Islands and American Samoa do not observe Daylight Saving Time.

Effective April 2, 2006 - all of Indiana observes daylight saving time. However, the state still is confusing because it is split between counties on EST/EDT and counties on CST/CDT.

split time zones

Well, I don't that Indiana's current status is THAT unusual - there are about a dozen other states that have multiple time zones.

What was confusing about Indiana's OLD system was that while most of the state did NOT observe Daylight Saving Time, the sections in the Central Time Zone DID observe DST. Also, the Indiana counties near Louisville and Cincinnati unofficially observed DST to stay in sync with those cities.

Time

jason1466 wrote:

Arizona and Hawaii run on Standard time year round. Many towns in Indiana near major cities in other states follow the time in the adjacent state.

We 'winter' in Arizona and spend the rest of the year in Ohio. So we never need to change our clocks. We are gone when Ohio changes, and back after it changes again.

So the moral of the story is, if you can't get a new clock and don't want to spend the summers at 115-120 degrees, come on out to Arizona part time and forget about changing your clocks. Even if your fancy clocks change for you, they will change back before you get back and nobody will be the wiser !!!

Pretty cool!

Lots to choose from at Amazon.com. I have an Oregon Scientific weather station with this kind of clock and it has kept up with the "moving" daylight savings date just perfectly.
