A listing of "recommended" places in Maine and NH to have Lobster, Lobster Rolls, Fried Clams without an exorbitant price. Most places are not fancy - casual !
Most are near the coast !

Following the basis for MrKenFL's file, I have added some additional locations we discovered on recent trips to Downeast Maine. Some of these places are only open from late Spring to early Fall when those from away outnumber the locals and the demand is high. Lobster prices vary from season to season as the dock price can vary as well as the catch.

Many will argue that the best places are literally shacks, most often on a wharf with the option of covered picnic tables when the weather is inclement. There are also roadside stands that offer limited outside seating and cater mostly to the the to-go folks. There are also more traditional restaurants that offer a lobster dinner that is not above the budget.

A typical dinner is served on a plastic tray and contains a freshly boiled whole lobster, an ear of corn and a baked potato along with a small cup of melted butter, nut crackers and a pick and lastly a stack of napkins and a bib. A paper place mat or wall chart describes how to eat a lobster. Some locations offer Lazy Lobster, served with the shell removed, but for a premium of course. Some offer Twins, a pair of ~ 1Lb lobsters. Others offer a discount on a pair that each are missing a claw. Lobster rolls are easier to eat and range from spectacular to so-so. The recipe varies by location. Some serve only lobster meat on a toasted bun with a side of melted butter. Some mix mayo in with the meat, others add celery, etc. which is technically a lobster salad roll.
