We have added a new search feature. If you go to the POI Files tab located here http://www.poi-factory.com/poifiles you can now use our new "Search for POI Files" link to find things more quickly. http://www.poi-factory.com/search/pfc
Try it out and let us know how you like it. POI Packages will always be at the top of the list.

Works Great
I had been going to the alpha POI file page, hitting CTRL-F to bring up the Windows Find function and typing in the search term.
This seems faster.

Great Job
Very useful feature; works very well.
Thanks

One small suggestion
Worked great. One very minor suggestion would be to move it to the top of the page to make it more visible.
Very nice. Thanks.

Re: New Search Feature...
“Content, POI Files and Users” searching, it’s a definite winner.
Kudos to you MaryAnn & Jon, you just keep making it better and better.

Excellent.
Agree with moving it to the top, right under "Home"

You may want to consider an index for the major sections of that page at the very top of the page. This would help with visibility, navigation and organization.
Contributors of the Week
I nominate the two of you for "Contributors of the Week". Good job!

Good but
The search works quickly. Would it be possible to alphabetize the results?
Garmin StreetPilot c530, Mapsource
sort
The search works quickly. Would it be possible to alphabetize the results?
The results are shown in order of most downloads. The ones that are most popular are usually at the top.

The sort is weighted as follows:
9x - POI Package / Metro area
8x - Download popularity in the last week
2x - Keyword relevence

Whole Word
I have noticed one problem (sorry
). I tried searching for J C Penney stores which I knew was listed, but I didn't know exactly how it was spelled:
JC Penney
J C Penney
J. C. Penney
So I just typed Penney and came up with no matches which I knew was wrong. So I scrolled through the alpha list until I found it. Turns out, it was spelled JCPenney, all run together.
So the search function must be looking for whole-word matches only. I'm not sure how many other entries this may affect.

Keyword descriptions are now needed in description

A way around this is to put keywords and nicknames in the description. I have made some changes in the description of JC Penny and it should be showing up under the keywords listed above in about an hour.
The search engine searches the description, so keep that in mind when making files that might have nicknames such as KFC for Kentucky Fried Chicken, and other things.
Miss POI
Today's assignment
So to all POI File managers out there, please add all other spellings and keywords to your file descriptions today when you have a chance, this includes, Walmart, and other places that are spelled a bit differently.
Thanks,
Miss POI
Another suggestion and I tried....
walmart, wal-mart, super walmart, super wal-mart, etc... I was able to find the poi regardless... any suggestions that I might add?
BTW as Gary stated, he found jcpenny by looking at the alpha list, is it possible to add a window at the top of the alpha list that would take you to the letters typed? i.e. when you typed j you would be taken to the top of the j's then when the c was typed you would be taken to jc etc... I'm not sure if that is possible, but it would help searching the list as it grows larger and larger...

I like that idea
I have passed this request to our programing guru and he will see what it would take to make it happen. He has some other projects in the works also.

Description
Good to know that it searches the description, not just the title. Is the search case sensitive, like:
Walmart
WalMart
walmart
Wal-mart
Wal-Mart
Probably not, but I'm just asking to make sure.
Another search variant might be state names spelled out and state names abreviated, like:
Idaho
ID
I'll start looking at my POI file descriptions. Thanks for the tip!!

I have been away from the site for awhile and am very happy to see that it just keeps getting better! Thanks to Ms Poi and all of the others who help make this such a great site.

You can't search for WM or W M even though that is listed in the description... It has to be at least 3 letters... So JC won't return JC Penny but Penny will... Mart or mart, super or Super will get you to the walmart poi as they are all listed in the poi description... also aophiuchus will get you to the Wal-Mart poi's....

CVS
The new search feature doesn't find the CVS POI when entering "cvs". I expected it to find www.poi-factory.com/node/14177.
