Universal Beanbag Mount

If you have no brand loyalty to GPS products, live in a location with a Fry's Electronics store and are looking for a usable beanbag mount, Fry's is currently selling a Gilsson Universal Beanbag mount in-store for $12.99 before tax. The website does not appear to be selling them online however. The beanbag has a detachable smooth suction cup plate that is compatible with suction cups with a diameter less than 3.25 inches diameter. Regular retail price is $19.99 and it seems like a fair price for the quality of the product.

That is a real good price.

That is a real good price. Which Fry's? I live in Los Angeles...

I Have both

I have both the universal and the garmin bean bag mounts. Both work excellant, but I do prefer the universal mount. I find the the GPS is more adjustable beacuse I can use the adjustable suction mount rather than the non-adjustable garmin mount that comes with the Garmin bean bags. It also is easier to pack in my carry-on when flying.

Universal mount vs. bean bag mount

Say wha? The Garmin is non-adjustable?
You can adjust the bean bag three diffeent ways:
1. Position the bean bag itself exactly where you want it on the dash.
2. Unlock the swivel and move the arm exactly where you want it.
3. Put the GPSr on the ball and adjust it exactly where you want it.
What else would you like it to do?

I Like both!

Yes the garmin is adjustable, but I find the universal suits me better. The mast on my windshield mount adjusts at the base so I can lower the profile more (and makes it easier to pack). No big deal...... they both do the same job, just one is less expensive.

I have the Garman bean bag and it adjust's just fine. When I want to pack in for traveling the mount comes off and it takes up very little room in my carry on.

Universal Beanbag Mount

Does the beanbag mount stay where you put it? The dash on the truck I drive for work slopes down toward the windshield.

Bean Bag is VERY Stable

Ken

Ken,

I have found the bean bag to be very stable in several different vehicles. It even rode with no problems with half the bag on the front slope of a very narrow dash. If you do find it slips, the bottom of the mount can be cleaned with some gentle soap and water, or you can put a different surface on the dash - black duct tape comes to mind.

Garmin Beanbag

Haven't met the rental car that this didn't like. Works Great.

Semsons.com

I use this bean bag:

with this mount:

I like it better than the garmin bag setup since my dash is far from me and slopes down. This set up brings the GPS much closer to me to touch.

I'll stick with

the Garmin beanbag. Got ours at Wal-mart for $20. Haven't seen a car or truck that it won't work in either. Have used it in some terrible roads through Canada and Alaska with no problems.

Thanks for posting good finds for those who might want something a little different than what Garmin offers!

Online

I found one online at www.newegg.com for 23.96 after shipping. I don't know the quality but their consumers give it good marks. I browsed Electronics/GPS & Accessories/Mounts.
