Any idea how much memory jpeg's eat up on this unit? Also, even though the download from my computer is in the correct order, the unit seems to ignore that in slide show mode. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Judy
Here is 1/2 your answer and a guess on the other 1/2

Jpeg's take up as much room on the Nuvi as the do on your computer. This is all determined by the resolution of the photos. To find the size, right click on the file on your computer and then move to the bottom of the drop down menu and left click properties.
Im not sure how the Nuvi decides what order the pictures are displayed on the slide show, but I think its the same order that you load them onto the Nuvi or the memory card if you are using one.

You should crop and change dimensions of your photos to 480 x 272 pixels. This will maximize the available screen size and provide a file in the 60k range.

Photos on Garmin
Thanks for the responses, however I do load the photos exactly in the order I want, doesn't matter-still shows them randomly. All my photos are 500 X 375 pixels(done in photoshop). I guess what I really need to know is if there's a way to check how much memory is available or has been used. I have no clue what the capacity is.

That can be checked like this.

Open "My computer" then right click the drive thats been assigned to your Nuvi. When the drop down menu appears, left click properties and you will see the capacity of the Nuvi storage, how much as been used and how much is still available for use.

Another Way to Check Memory
Thank you all for helping me. Found a way to check right on the Garmin (instructions were for the Nuvi 650 but it worked fine for my Nuvi 680).
From the map screen select Speed or Arrival.
Press & hold MPH for several seconds
Scroll using NEXT and/or up and down arrows
Press and hold the battery icon (or next to it) for more - this does not work on my 680 so I don't know what else it brings up.
How annoying that Garmin makes things so difficult to find.
Thanks
Appreciate the tips. I don't do it very often and forget how to do things sometimes.

easy fix
1) I do load the photos exactly in the order I want, doesn't matter-still shows them randomly. All my photos are 500 X 375 pixels(done in photoshop).
2) I guess what I really need to know is if there's a way to check how much memory is available or has been used. I have no clue what the capacity is.

Judy,
1) Your pics probably showing by creation date. Easy fix, to reduce confusion add numbers at file beginning, in slideshow order, eg 001, 002, 003. Computers like zeros before numbers. Open 001yourname.jpg file in photoshop and save the as yourname.jpg. Continue doing this to all the pics in numerical order.
2) You don't want to be saving 1.5mg pics to nuvi drive, printshop probably saves them at 200K or less. You can save a huge quanity of pics on your nuvi provide not to many mp3s on there. Easiest way to find out memory available/used is as someone else described, plug in gps to pc, click my computer, select and right click nuvi drive, select properties.
