Surprised with beanbag

I purchased the beanbag mount based on someone's comment in this forum. I wondered how well it would stay in place but the comment I read stated he could NOT inadvertently knock it off. So I took a chance and bought it. It's great; completely mobile when in other cars and much better and easier than the windshield mount which I would have had trouble reaching. I've used it in friends' cars and in rentals and haven't had a minute of trouble. It really does stay put.

Cases

I use a PDA case from Spec-Ops. It is padded and fits my Nuvi 260 real good.

Bean Bag and Walmart

They are great when they are new. After time they do lose the grip. The work around is one of those sticky pads. No movement now.

They stock them at WalMart.

I looked at the Garmin bean bag on line at WalMart and it was around 27 bucks...So, I went into the local store and they wanted what everyone else did, around 40 bucks...I asked if I could get the internet price, they said sorry...So...I ordered it on line and had it shipped to the same local store I went to before, free shipping. It came in about a week and a half. I don't get the logic there...Anyway, I really like it and wished I would have bought one sooner!

I too purchase a beanbag

after finding out it is against the law in CA to mount it on the windshield. At first I was afraid the beanbag would move around too much but so far so good. The GPS has stay put. wink

How Portable

I am in a lot of rentals, the beanbag looks bulky. How portable is it? Does it fold/compress? How about weight?

Beanbag specs...

My beanbag, with the bracket for my nuv 750 attached, weighs 1 lb, 6 oz. Without the bracket, it's 1 lb, 4 oz and relatively flat, but not foldable. Dimensions are about 7.5" x 6.5" x 1.25" tall without bracket. It should easily fit in a briefcase or larger purse. I love it!

No it dont fold, or compresss, it isnt that thick that you cant store it somewhere, under a seat, or in the pocket in the back of the seat or in a suitcase or computer case, Not much weight to it amazon says it is 1.6 lbs Shipping weitght. I have one and if i ever had to replace it, I would just get me another one.

I'm glad I bought my bean

I'm glad I bought my bean bag. For one, it's easier to move my GPS between vehicles. And for another, I never dreamed of until I started using my GPS, is the ability to move it down to the mid height in both vehicles rather than up on the dashboard...seems my tired old bifocaled eyes can focus better down rather than up on the dashboard. I would have never figured my bifocals would be my limitation rather than the GPS itself.

We have the beanbag

and use Armoral on the dash and have never had a problem. Just finished a 1600 mile trip through some of the less than wonderful roads in the Yukon and the GPS never slipped at all. Convinced the beanbag wins hands down over the windshield mount!

Highly recommended

Ordered mine from Amazon along with my 750 and love it. When you park somewhere, it's easy to just place it down on the floor hidden without having to unplug, reattach suction etc. It's the only way to go.

With theft on the rise the beanbag mount leaves no evidence that it was there, like the little circles mark on the windshield.Time to get the windex out now and start cleaning.I would also recommend the beanbag.
