City Navigator North America NT Version 2025.10 is now available.

Supposedly this is true but I only have my iPad and can’t verify the statement.

[Edit] On a PC now and when entering GE I was prompted that GE 7.20.2.0 is now available but nothing about a map update.

Now that I've updated GE, a new map NA City Navigator 2025.10 is shown as available (4.80 GB in size on a nuvi 265).

Release notes for GE 7.20.2.0 read “Resolved a map update failure for our legacy devices.”

Good to know. Could very well be the device. I just grabbed whatever is oldest, a nuvi 265 as I like to test on items that in the long run are dispensible.

Getting the NA 2025.10 map update listed for a Nuvi 2595 under 7.20.1.0 on Win 11. Haven't installed it yet though, also haven't updated to GE 7.20.2.0 yet either. Will do so soon.

I updated GE and two devices (nuvi 265WT and a nuvi 2689). I was able to cleanup up about 9 GB. Crazy that GE can’t offer you a choice to cleanup older files.

Am I confused?

I tried twice to perform a map update to device and computer, and both times, I got an error message. I checked the devices and both got the new map update but then went to Basecamp and saw that it wasn't installed to the computer.

I then tried to update to Computer only, and it started, then Windows popped up the UAC message requiring me to say Yes. With the Yes, the update was installed to the computer and can be seen and used by Basecamp.

In thinking about this, it makes sense. But I don't remember ever having to click the Windows UAC popup before. Is this new or am I forgetting that it's occurred before? And of course, when updating to device and computer, I had walked away from my computer and therefore didn't see or hear the popup. I guess the Windows UAC popup eventually times out preventing installation to the computer, so when I came back and saw the error message, I didn't have a clue as to what caused the error.

In case it matters, I was installing the computer map to a folder in my D drive, not accepting the default location that Garmin Express offered.

Any thoughts?

Not sure when you noticed this but

Today (Friday) I am having to sign in to every web site I go to. I had to also "reshare" some of my google drive folders. Yesterday after the standard windows update I did I didn't have to reboot the computer. I rebooted today. I am thinking MS did something.

Nuvi 2460LMT.

Not confused Craig.

Same thing happened to me. I first updated one of my nuvi 3597's using the device and computer option. I wasn't baby sitting the update and when I checked the computer a couple hours later, GE was showing the update failure message. I determined the 3597 had updated OK, but the map was not installed to the computer. I then updated my DriveLuxe 51 via Express. This time I watched it and noticed the UAC icon sitting in the Windows task bar. I opened it up and gave permission to continue and the update completed without error. I suspect if you don't answer the UAC it eventually times out and causes the error. I have had this same thing happen on previous map updates also.

Over at the Garmin forums an individual had issues with doing a map update to computer. The individual entered into a conversation with Garmin Tech support and was told the feature is no longer supported. However someone added that if you run GE as an administrator, it will work.

For the specifics go to https://forums.garmin.com/apps-software/mac-windows-software... and read toward the bottom of page 3 the comments by @6222979.

Perhaps a chrome change, not MS

It might not be MS but Google Chrome. I have recently observed some sluggishness as I surf some of my regular locations. For some new Chrome security features that might possibility be the cause see https://blog.google/products/chrome/google-chrome-safe-brows....

I thought nothing of it at the time because the maps on my GPS were fine, but I did get the red error message did not complete too. I did choose device and PC. Reading your post I got curious so I checked my Basecamp and it did not have the 2025.10 map. So I opened GE without my GPS connected went to install to computer only got the UAC message clicked yes, a minute later said all was good and opened basecamp and 2025.10 was there.

Yes, that was also my method and my results. I was pleasantly surprised that success occurred in a few 10s of seconds after clicking UAC's Yes button, and not much longer due to files being written to the PC. cool

Seems to me the files were already there, it was just a matter of OKing them to be there before they could be seen.

That seems right to me, too. But it is odd that if the purpose of UAC is to prevent files being written to a disk without my permission, that it would happen.

My 3597 puked, also. It did

My 3597 puked, also. It did update BaseCamp, but errored out on the GPS. Checking maps, there were no NA Garmin maps at all. A reinstall fixed it, but this isn't the first time it' s happened.

That's not quite what UAC does, see https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/security/applicati...

Thank you for the info,

Thank you for the info,

Updated Our Two Units over the weekend...

2455LMT and 2555LMT.

Started by installing Garmin Express 7.20.0.0 with no problems. Garmin did not mark "Launch Garmin Express on computer startup" as default.

Each install took about 35 minutes and went smoothly. Under myMaps installed, it shows CN North America NT 2025.10 All Canada & Mexico and CN North America NT 2025.10 All US.

Smooth installations and software cleaned up after itself. Don't see any big changes in our area, but have not had time to explore much. Time will tell grin

Check on the cleanup

FreddyP wrote:

GE says it cleans up after itself, but it leaves copies of older maps behind at C:\ProgramData\Garmin\CoreService\Downloads\Map. These maps can be huge, often around 8 GB. They can be removed (don't forget to empty the Recycle Bin). Some people leave the most recent just in case a latent issue develops.

--
John from PA

Thanks . . .

John from PA - my comment was directed more at the older SID, JCV and SQLite db files that were often left behind taking up space on the Nuvi.

Will check for older map files left on the PC later. Not a big concern with all the extra disk space on the laptop, but something to keep in mind grin

EDIT - checked and the only map left on the laptop after install is the latest Version 2025.10. So for me it was a pretty clean install. Agree 100% about checking for left over old maps, especially if disk space on a persons computer is starting to become an issue mrgreen

Taking a trip...

Taking a long camping trip in a couple of months so have plenty of time to do this update. Wonder if it will make any difference on the trip. At least I will know I have the latest maps.(Will obviously have to update my Red Light and Rest Stop POI files as well.) Thanks for the heads up.
